www.ks5u.com 英语试卷 阅读理解(本大题共10小题,每小题2分)‎ A A new collection of photos brings an unsuccessful Antarctic voyage back to life.‎ Frank Hurley’s pictures would be outstanding﹣undoubtedly first﹣rate photo﹣journalism﹣if they had been made last week.In fact, they were shot from 1914 through 1916,most of them after a disastrous shipwreck(海滩),by a cameraman who had no reasonable expectation of survival. Many of the images were stored in an ice chest, under freezing water,in the damaged wooden ship.‎ The ship was the Endurance,a small, tight,Norwegian﹣built three﹣master that was intended to take Sir Ernest Shackleton and a small crew of seamen and scientists,27men in all,to the southernmost shore of Antarctica’s Weddell Sea.From that point Shackleton wanted to force a passage by dog sled(雪橇) across the continent. The journey was intended to achieve more than what Captain Robert Falcon Scott had done.Captain Scott had reached the South Pole early in 1912but had died with his four companions on the march back.‎ As writer Caroline Alexander makes clear in her forceful and well﹣researched story The Endurance, adventuring was even then a thoroughly commercial effort.Scott’s last journey, completed as be lay in a tent dying of cold and hunger, caught the world’s imagination, and a film made in his honor drew crowds.Shackleton,a onetime British merchant﹣navy officer who had got to within 100miles of the South Pole in 1908,started a business before his 1914voyage to make money from movie and still photography.Frank Hurley,a confident and gifted Australian photographer who knew the Antarctic, was hired to make the images, most of which have never before been published.‎ ‎1. Treasure hunting.‎ B ‎ Sitting at a desk in a classroom all day can be pretty boring. ‎ ‎ The teachers at Ward Elementary in Winston–Salem, North Carolina, picked up on that and traded in their students' desks for exercise bikes as a part of their Read and Ride program! ‎ ‎ The Read and Ride program began five years ago. One classroom has enough bikes for every student in any given class, and throughout the day teachers bring in their students to the room to ride them and read their books. ‎ ‎ Even regular classrooms have one bike in the back of each room for students who just can't sit ‎ still to use to help them burn energy in a good way. ‎ ‎ Students love being more active! Teachers enjoy seeing students eager to read. Parents appreciate stronger, smarter children. Headmasters value this effective and cost-free program. "Riding exercise bikes makes reading fun for many kids who get frustrated (挫败的) when they read. Thus, they have a way to release that frustration while they ride," said Scott Ertl, who started the program. "As we can see, everyone wants to promote literacy and lose weight! But many students who are overweight struggle with sports and activities since they don't want to always be the last or lose with others watching on the playground. On exercise bikes, however, students are able to exert (发挥) themselves at their own level—without anyone noticing when they slow down or take a break." ‎ ‎ As it turns out, not only are the bikes helping the students burn calories, they're also helping them learn better and stay focused. At the end of the school year the school analyzed testing data and found that students that spent more time reading and riding did more than twice as well on reading tests than their fellow students who spent the least time in the program. ‎ ‎4. Why did the teachers start the Read and Ride program?‎ A. To get the students out of the classrooms.‎ B. To make the students more active in sports.‎ C. To read effectively in an active way.‎ D. To help the overweight students keep fit.‎ ‎5. According to Scott Ertl, riding exercise bikes________.‎ A. is the least expensive way for exercise B. call benefit overweight students in both ways C. is the best way to build up students' body D. is a good way to avoid being watched by teachers ‎6. The program helps the students in the following ways except________.‎ A. help them learn better B. reduce their reading difficulties C. build up their bodies D. improve their learning concentration C You may think that sailing is a difficult sport, but it is really not hard to learn it.You do not need to be strong. But you need to be quick. And you need to understand a few basic rules about the wind. ‎ ‎ First, you must ask yourself,“Where is the wind coming from?Is it coming from ahead or behind or from the side?”You must think about this all the time on the boat. The wind direction tells you what to do with the sail. ‎ ‎ Let's start with the wind blowing from behind. This means the wind and the boat are going in the same direction. Then you must always keep the sail outside the boat.It should be at a 90° angle(角度) to the boat. Then it will catch the wind best. ‎ ‎ If the wind is blowing from the side,it is blowing across the boat.In this case, you must keep the sail half way outside the boat.It should be at a 45° angle to the boat. It needs to be out far enough to catch the wind, but it shouldn't flap(摆动).It shouldn't look like a flag on a flagpole. If it is flapping,it is probably out too far,and the boat will slow down. ‎ ‎ Sailing into the wind is not possible. If you try,the sail will flap and the boat will stop. You may ‎ want to go in that direction. It is possible, but you can't go in a straight line. You must go first in one direction and then in another. This is called tacking. When you are tacking, you must always keep the sail inside the boat.‎ ‎7. What should you consider first while sailing?‎ A. Sailors' strength. B. Wave levels. C. Wind directions. D. Size of sails.‎ ‎8. What does the word “It” underlined in Paragraph 4 refer to?‎ A. The boat. B. The wind. C. The sail. D. The angle.‎ ‎9. What do you have to do when sailing against the wind?‎ A. Move in a straight line. B. Allow the sail to flap. C. Lower the sail. D. Tack the boat.‎ ‎10. Where can you probably find the text?‎ A. In a popular magazine. B. In a tourist guidebook.‎ C. In a physics textbook. D. In an official report.‎ 阅读七选五 (本大题共5小题,每小题2分)‎ Five Ways to Improve Communication Skills Communication is one of the most important skills we can ever learn. It affects everything that we do — whether we’re communicating at work to meet deadlines and achieve results, or communicating with friends, family and partners to build strong relationships. Thus communication is very important. Here are five ways to improve your communication skills.‎ ‎  11  ‎ This reflects a real lack of respect. By interrupting someone, what you’re basically saying is “I don’t care what you’re saying—what I have to say is more important”.‎ Don’t finish other people’s sentences.‎ ‎  12   Wrong. Research has shown by doing this you are disempowering (剥夺权利) the other person because you are taking control of the conversation, so bite your tongue!‎ Paraphrase. (解释)‎ If you want to show that you have really understood someone, then paraphrasing is a great tool.  13   Here’s an example: “So Barney, what I’m hearing is that results are the number one objective for you right now and we need to find some fast solutions for you?”‎ ‎  14  ‎ Focus on active listening instead of passive listening. The difference is that active listening means you engage with and respond to the other person based on what he/she has said, while passive listening is simply the act of listening with no response.‎ Keep eye contact.‎ By looking at the other person in the eyes, you are proving that you’re interested in what he/she is saying.  15  ‎ A. All you do is repeat back to someone what he/she has just said, before you comment yourself.‎ B. You don’t see them interrupting others or leaving off mid conversation.‎ C. Listen actively.‎ D. This also keeps you focused and less distracted (分散).‎ E. Talk actively.‎ F. I used to do this a lot thinking I was helpfully finishing people’s sentences for them.‎ G. Never interrupt people.‎ 完形填空(共20小题,每小题1.5分)‎ ‎ It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80s came to the hospital. Dear editor, Recently there has been a series of wide-ranging discussions about whether it is necessary for primary school students to learn English. As a senior high school student who has gone through all the pains and efforts to learn this language, I firmly believe it's time we took immediate action to free primary school students from the sufferings. While English is a must in international trade, for most of its child learners across the country, whose number is counted in millions, English is not necessary in their future life. Nor is it an essential part in their future jobs. Most students learn English only to pass exams and that's why they will soon forget every word after graduation. Why must we trap young kids into an odyssey of learning something unimportant and unnecessary? A curriculum without English will certainly benefit parents financially, and of course, will be a blessing for young kids who desire less academic pressure and more time to play.‎
