Paper cutting has long been a symbol of Eastern charm.‎ There are symmetrical(对称的)designs that are usually created by some folding and cutting. When unfolded, it forms a symmetrical design. Chinese cut-outs are normally symmetrical and are usually in an even number series of 2, 4, 24,etc.‎ The oldest surviving paper cut-out is a symmetrical circle from the early 6th century found in Xinjiang, China. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the 14th century. Throughout the Qing Dynasty many paper cutting skills were developed including drafting and the use of smoked papers. By the end of the Qing ruling, however, paper cutting was once on the decline because new art forms were being introduced. The Republic of China later tried to revive the art in the 1980s.‎ Today, paper cut-outs are chiefly decorative. They decorate walls, windows, doors, columns, mirrors, lamps and lanterns in homes and are also used on presents or are given as gifts themselves. Entrances decorated with paper cut-outs are supposed to bring good luck. Paper cut-outs used to be used as patterns, especially for embroidery(刺绣).‎ There are two methods of manufacture: one uses scissors, the other uses knives. In the scissor ‎ method, several pieces of paper — up to eight — are fastened together. The image is then cut with sharp, pointed scissors. Knife cuttings are fashioned by putting several paper on a relatively soft foundation consisting of a mixture of oil and ashes. Skilled crafters can even cut out different drawings freely without stopping.‎ ‎24.When can the existing oldest paper cutting date back to?‎ A. about 1 500 years ago. B. about 1 600 years ago.‎ C. about 1 400 years ago. D. about 600 years ago.‎ ‎25.The underlined word "revive" in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by "_______".‎ A. survive B. restore C. copy D. fix ‎26.Which of the following words can best summarize the last paragraph?‎ A. History. B. Origin. C. Uses. D. Process.‎ ‎27.What may be the best title of the text?‎ A. Paper — the Eastern Charm B. The History of Paper Cutting C.A Brief Introduction to Paper Cutting D. Paper Cutting — Unbelievable Skilled Crafters C Once upon a time, a man was walking on a mountain when he found an incredible cave with all kinds of treasure inside it. So he gave up his job, his home, and his friends, and spent all his time guarding the cave.‎ He was so dedicated to it that he hardly ate or drank, and before long he fell ill. One day, when he could hardly move at all, he decided to share the treasure.‎ He crawled into the cave to get a handful of jewels, but discovered, to his horror, that it was empty except for a small emerald(绿宝石). The man took it and gave it to the first person to come by, a woman.‎ Then an old man came by. “What bad luck!” the man said. “Just a moment ago I gave a woman the last of the treasure I was guarding.”‎ ‎“Are you sure there is nothing left?” the old man asked. ‎ The man took him into the cave, where they found a chest with jewels and some bags of gold. The man was shocked, and the old man explained to him, “At last! At last! At last someone has broken the spell of this cave. This is the Cave of Treasure, and you're the first to have passed its great test. Many have dedicated their lives to this cave, only to end up realizing there was nothing ‎ here…”‎ ‎“And why does this happen?” the man asked.‎ ‎“This magic cave has only as many riches as your own heart. When someone discovers it, the cave fills with the treasure they bring with them, but later, when they have devoted themselves to guarding the treasure, their hearts become empty. So does the cave. The only way to fill it is by filling your heart with all that is good, as you did by giving the woman that last jewel.”‎ From that day on, the man understood that it was better to share than to keep. Thanks to the cave and the old man, he became noble and generous.‎ ‎28.Why did the man give up his job, home and friends?‎ A.Because he possessed a variety of treasure. B.Because he devoted himself to a great test.‎ C.Because he had to guard the treasure cave. D.Because he wanted to find the treasure cave. ‎ ‎29.What did the man find when he showed his cave to the old man? ‎ A.All kinds of treasure. B.A chest with jewels and gold.‎ C.A small emerald. D.A handful of jewels. ‎ ‎30.What do we learn about the people who dedicated their lives to the cave before?‎ A.They all found the cave empty at last.‎ B.The old man freed them from its spell.‎ C.They all filled the cave with the treasure they had.‎ D.They thought it was better to share than to enjoy the treasure alone.‎ ‎31.What can we learn from the text?‎ A.Different people have different views.‎ B.Treasure only belongs to those who possess it.‎ C.Some people never learn what is really valuable.‎ D.Purely material things cannot make us truly wealthy.‎ D With the development of society, the choice of food and drink for children is more diversified than ever before. However, every coin has two sides. Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the statistics. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.‎ Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty food, such ‎ as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants then probably children would buy less take-away food.‎ There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree to this, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what they eat, they will go for sweet and salty food every time, and this will carry on throughout their lives. ‎ There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home, they sit in front of the television or their computers. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime(消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports. ‎ The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active as well as guide them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.‎ ‎32.What is suggested by the author to deal with overweight?‎ A.Blaming the shops selling unhealthy and fatty food.‎ B.Asking young children to walk to school every day.‎ C.Living an active life and removing bad eating habits.‎ D.Not watching TV or playing computer games after school.‎ ‎33.Which of the following shows the structure of the whole passage?‎ ‎34.The author writes the passage to ________.‎ A.show people a social problem B.provide facts for the government C.advise solutions to a problem D.compare opinions of people ‎35.The underlined word “diversified” in the first paragraph most probably means “________”.‎ A.various B.difficult C.expensive D.available 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中的两项为多途选项。‎ What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange, red?   36  . Do you prefer grays and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You tend to be pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously studying the meaning of color preference, as well as the effect that colors have on human beings.   37   . If you happen to love brown, you did so, as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.‎ ‎    38   . A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day.    39    . A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides(自杀)than any other bridge in the area ----until it was repainted green . The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply. Perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.‎ ‎       40   . It is an established fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or grey.‎ A.On the other hand, black is depressing.‎ B.They tell us, among other facts, that we do not choose our favorite color as grow up---we are born with our preference.‎ C.The rooms are painted in different colors as you like.‎ D.If you do, you must be an optimist, a leader, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement.‎ E.Light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active.‎ F.Life is like a picture or a poem, full of different colors.‎ G.Colors do influence our moods---there is no doubt about it.‎ ‎  第三部分:完形填空 (共20小题,每小题1.5分, 满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文。从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 ‎ After spending a weekend away with my adult son, I was so impressed by his generous heart that I sent him this letter.‎ Dear son,‎ ‎ I want to thank you for teaching me a very 41 lesson in life by the great example you ‎ ‎42 .
