Services such as hospital and transport are usually much better in the city than in the countryside. They hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city. But in the big cities of Europe like London or Paris, people are moving out of the city. These rich families want to live a quieter life. They are tired of the noise and the dirt of the city, and they are tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don’t want to live in the cities any more. They want a house with a garden in the countryside, and breathe the fresh air there. So they move out of the cities. Some don’t go very far, just a little way out of the city, to the towns near the cities. Other people move to the real countryside with sheep, cows and green fields. There they start new lives and try to make new friends. Not all those who move from the city to the countryside are happy. After two or three years, many people who have done this feel that it is a big mistake. They don’t make so much money and there isn’t much work to do. People in the countryside are different and aren’t always very friendly. As a result, quite a lot of people who have moved to the countryside move back to the city. “It’s wonderful to see crowds in the streets and cinema lights.” they say. 21.Which is NOT the reason for people moving to the cities in China? A. The countryside is much poorer than the city. B. People in the countryside have nothing to eat. C. People in the countryside don’t have much work to do there. D. Services in cities are usually much better than those in the countryside. 22.Why do some rich families in Europe move to the countryside? A. Because they will find good jobs. B. Because they like feeding sheep and cows in the green fields. C. Because they can make more money there. D. Because they are tired of living in the city. 23.The best title of this passage may be“________”. A. Moving Out or Moving back B. Living in the City C. Living in the Countryside D. Living a Happy Life B How do kids behave when there are no adults around?Donette Mabes from New Jersey says,"You never really know because you're not watching them all the time. " Donette had always just thought her son was a troublemaker-until recently, when 13-year-old Gavin Mabes and some middle school friends arrived at a skate park. The park was empty except for little Carter Brunell, who was there with his mother celebrating his fifth birthday. Carter is on the autism spectrum(自闭症). Big groups of older kids can make him nervous,so his mom,Kristen, was fully prepared to get him out of there. But she wasn't prepared for what happened next. Gavin led the way and the others followed. The only surprise was that Gavin didn't start trouble. He started a friendship. "Gavin is just going around with Carter and making him feel special. And the rest of his friends then started singing Happy Birthday to him,"Kristen said,“That really blew me away, because I just saw the kindness in the world. And I wanted Carter to have a good birthday. ” It was such a great birthday, and such a kind deed, even the local police department responded. They decided to hold a pizza party for them. But here's the best part: Since their first meeting, Gavin and his friends have continued to play with Carter. As for the moms, this was the sweetest moment. Knowing your kid treats others kindly is better than seeing your kid treated kindly by others, even when you're not watching. "I was just so proud of him. Whenever I was “bad”, you'd shake your finger at me and ask, “How could you?”--but then you'd give up, and roll me over for a belly scratch and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. My housetraining was a long process, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. We went for long walks, runs in the park and car rides. We stopped for ice cream. I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day. Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. Eventually, you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a dog person, but I still welcomed her into our home. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement, I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them too. Your wife was afraid I would bite them. But nevertheless, as they began to grow, I became their friend. Now, you have a new job in another city and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your “family”, but there was a time when I was your only family. I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the dog pound. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said, “I know you will find a good home for her.” They shrugged and gave you a pained look. The children were in tears as they waved me goodbye. And “How could you?” were the only three words that swept over my mind. Is it better to live with hope or without hope? At first, whenever anyone passed my pen , I rushed to the front, hoping it was you, that you had changed your mind and that this was all a bad dream. My beloved master, I will think of you and wait for you forever. I hope you receive more faithfulness from your family than you showed to me. 28.Why was the dog excited about the car ride? A. It thought of moving with its master. B. It hoped to be adopted(收养)by another family. C. It was longing for the life at the pound D. It was happy about its master's decision. 29.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 5 shows that ________. A. the dog had done many bad things B. the dog would be given less care C. the master's decision upset the dog D. the master left the dog with regret 30.Which is true about the dog when it lived at the pound? A. It felt disappointed with its master. B. It continued to love its former owner. C. It did not trust humans any more. D. It was excited about the pound. 31.What is the theme of the story? A. Be ready for changes. B. Never expect too much. C. Never complain about your life. D. Be faithful to those who love you. D Will people remember less with Internet users becoming more and more dependent on the Internet to store information? If you know your computer will save information, why do you store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Professor Betsy Sparrow, together with her research team, has carried out some experiments in a recent study, wanting to know how the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they offered people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it. In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the computer. The information was in a specific computer folder( 文 件 夹 ). Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder locations better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory(交互记忆)”. According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing. 32.Why does the text begin with two questions? A.To make a comparison. B.To introduce the main topic. C.To show the author’s attitude. D.To list some examples. 33.What can we learn about the first experiment? A.The Sparrow’s team typed the information into a computer. B.The two groups remembered the information equally well. C.The first group did not try to remember the information. D.The second group did not understand the information. 34.What do people usually do in transactive memory? A.They remember how to find the information. B.They organize information like a computer. C.They change the quantity of information. D.They bear the information in mind. 35.What is Sparrow’s attitude towards the influence the Internet has on people’s memory ? A.Negative. B.Passive. C.Objective. D.Doubtful. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 36.
