Elizabeth looked down. “Is it from Harvard? They refused my application once.” Emily answered, “No, it’s from Yale.” Quickly, Elizabeth walked downstairs. She took the letter and opened it. “Rejected again,” Elizabeth said unhappily. “Who says women can’t be doctors?” “They are fools not to accept you. You can’t let them stop you, Lizzie,” Emily said. “I won’t. I’ll apply to (申请) Geneva Medical College,” Elizabeth told her sister. As it turned out, the professors at Geneva Medical College were not fools. They allowed Elizabeth Blackwell to study medicine. In 1848, a year before Elizabeth would graduate, a typhoid epidemic (伤寒流行病) broke out in New York. Elizabeth wrote to Emily. “There’s an outbreak (爆发) of typhoid, and I am going to help. It is dangerous, so if I should not survive, please do me the honor of studying medicine yourself.” Emily replied, “Encouraged by your dream and success, I have decided to study in medical school, as well.” Having survived the disease, Elizabeth tried to set up a private medical practice. “I graduated first in my class but no one believes a woman can be a good doctor,” she said to Emily one day. “All I hear is that doctors should be men, while women should stay home to cook and clean.” Emily said worriedly, “I will graduate in June with my medical degree. What shall we do?” Elizabeth thought for a while and replied, “There’s a big house in the poor part of our town. We can practice medicine there for people who couldn’t afford care.” Soon with the help of some friends, Elizabeth and Emily bought the house and opened a hospital for poor women and children. “We’ll have an all-women staff (员工),” Elizabeth said. “And later, we’ll add a medical college for women!” Emily added. At last, Elizabeth realized her dream of being a doctor. 21. The underlined word “Rejected” in the first paragraph can be best replaced by _____. A. Refused B. Praised C. Changed D. Accepted 22. A. received strong support from her sister B. refused to go to study at Yale University C. founded a medical college after graduation D. was finally accepted by Harvard after her efforts B CATV CATV is a short way saying “community antenna (公用天线) television”. But “cable television” is the name most people use. Cable television allows viewers(观众) to receive TV programs that they can not pick up with their ordinary antenna. Television signals (信号) do not follow the curve(曲线) of the earth. They travel in straight lines in all directions. Signals from a TV station move towards the horizon(水平线) and then go into space. If you live only a few miles from a TV station, you may get a good picture on your set. But if you live more than 50 miles from a station, you may not get any pictured at all. CATV began in 1948. People in places far from TV stations had to pay for putting up high antennas. A community antenna was usually placed on a hill, a mountain or on a high tower. The antenna picked up TV signals and fed them into a small local(当地的) station. From the station, thick wires called cable ran out to nearby homes. Each person using the cable paid a monthly charge(费用). CATV worked well, and soon new uses were found for it. Local stations could feed programs into empty channels that were not in use. People along the cable could have local news, weather report, and farm and school news at no extra charge. Toddy, cable television has moved into cities. It brings in extra programs that city viewers with ordinary antenna can not see. It is also used in many classrooms throughout the country. 24. From the first paragraph we know that _____. A. most people use cable television B. “community antenna” is used for cable television C. a community antenna is used for cable television D. an ordinary antenna can not pick up TV programs 25. Of the following, which is not the way TV signals travel? A. In a curve. B. In a straight line. C. In all directions. D. Towards the horizon. 26. On the whole, this passage is about ______. A. how to put up high antennas B. a way of picking up better TV programs C. how to use the empty channels on your TV set D. the way that TV signals are sent 27. From the passage we can infer (推测) that ______. A. TV has begun to be used for educational purpose(目的) B. viewers can receive more TV programs with their ordinary antennas C. cable TV can not be used in small towns D. antennas for cable TV are usually put up in the center of a community C Volunteering is one of the major wealth of any American city or town. People get together to help others less fortunate than themselves, or victims of a natural or man-made disaster. Since the start of our country this has been one of the noticeable features of our society. Beginning in the Colonial Period and continuing down to today our country’s history is full of examples of people helping each other. Requiring high school students to take part in voluntary community service projects introduces them to this important part of our society. And while many students complain about this program at first, a large number of them find great individual(个人的) satisfaction when they look back at the things they achieved. Our son, who graduated in 2005, found that he enjoyed the time he spent with primary school students helping them with their reading. In some ways he became a hero to the young boys and girls he was spending time with, simply because he was a high school student and took the time to get to know them. By the end of his first year in the program he was looking forward to the next school year and a new group of kids. It was particularly satisfying when a child he had helped saw him some place in the community and remembered him. Having high school students take part in required community service activities helps give them an important sense of belonging to the adult world. It also gives them first-hand experience in activities and situations they might not otherwise experience. And it shows them that they can make a valuable contribution towards the society with just a little effort and a few hours of their time. 28. What kind of feeling is expressed in Paragraph 1? A. Surprise B. Doubt C. Concern D. Pride 29. What do we know about the author’s son? A. He has been a volunteer for about one year. B. He won much respect for his voluntary work. C. He hoped the children he helped would remember him. D. He felt pleased when he was recognized by other volunteers. 30. In paragraph 4, the author mainly discusses . A. the benefits of required volunteering B. the importance of first-hand experience C. the requirements for being a volunteer D. the responsibility of contributing to society 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 “Three Apples” changed the world. Why do you ask such a thing?” the man said angrily. “I just want to know. Please tell me. How much do you make an hour?” pleaded the little boy. “If you must know, I make $20 an hour.” “Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I please borrow $10?” The father was angry, “If the only reason you asked that is that you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish(自私的). I work hard every day for such childish behavior.” The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. “How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?” he thought to himself. After about an hour or so, the man calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door. “Are you asleep, son?” he asked. “No, daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy. “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man. “It has been a long day and I took out my anger on you. Here’s the $10 you asked for.” The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh. Thank you, daddy!” he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled(皱巴巴的) bills. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: The man, seeing that the boy already had money started to get angry again. _____________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Not knowing what his son meant, the father just stood there, waiting for his boy’s explanation.________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ 2019—2020学年度上学期九月月考 高一英语答案 第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分) 1-20;CBCAC BBCCA CABAB CAABA 第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分35分) 21-23 ABA 24-27 CABA 28-30 DBA 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 31-35 BAGDE 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分 36-55 BACAB ADCAD CBBCB ABCBA 第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 56.as 57.thought 58.importance 59. to understand 60. healthier 61.wives 62. their 63.a 64. Why do you want more money since you already have these bills?” the father could hardly hold his anger back and inquired with two eyebrows knitted into one. With held-back tears in his eyes, the little boy slowly and carefully counted out his money, and then looked up at his father, replying, “Because I didn’t have enough before, but now I do.” with big blue eyes shining with tears. Paragraph 2: Not knowing what his son meant, the father just stood there, waiting for his boy’s explanation. Wiping away his tears and an innocent smile appearing on his face, the boy requested in a relieved voice, “Daddy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour from you? Please come home early tomorrow. I want to have dinner with you.” Hearing the boy’s small but sincere request, the father couldn’t hold back his tears. Realizing he was too busy with his business to spare some time with his beloved ones, he gathered his son into his arms and apologized again and again, “Sorry..., and I promise I’ll be back early tomorrow.”查看更多
