D.Senior high school students worldwide. 2.When can the participants study the real robots? A.On the morning of December 4. B.On the morning of December 5. C.On the afternoon of December 4. D.On the afternoon of December 5. 3.What type of writing is this text? A.A research paper. B.An exhibition guide. C.An announcement. D.A newspaper article. B It’s exciting to imagine how future humans will have solved the problems we have now, or what amazing new inventions will make our lives more convenient and interesting. We asked top scientists to share their predictions on what the world will be like in a century. If they’re right, the 2114 is going to be really cool. 1. Robots will do your chores and more. Robots will be doing most of our jobs, from building homes to teaching math. There are already robots that clean floors and pump gas. In the future they will be more complicated and useful. Unfortunately, with robots taking all the jobs, unemployment will be high. 2. You will read minds. Speaking of being social, we will communicate in an entirely different way. Forget texts and emails. Mind-reading technology will allow us to send thoughts to each other without speaking a word. We will also be able to send thoughts to objects around us. (Instead of pressing "start" on the microwave, you could just think "start.") Meanwhile, chips implanted(植入) in our brains will improve memory and intelligence. 3. Your car will drive you. Today, around 30,000 Americans die in car accidents each year. One hundred years form now, accidents will be a thing of the past. According to Mark Safford, consultant or the U.S. Department of Transportation, future cars will drive themselves. These electric cars will communicate with other cars on the road to travel safely in close formation at high speeds. 4. You will eat fake meat. Raising animals is not an efficient way to produce food, and it harms the environment: Cows, chickens, and pigs eat a lot, and then we have to deal with all that poop(粪便). What’s more, that poop can poison lakes, rivers, and streams. Today, scientists can "grow" meat in a lab from animal cells, but it’s expensive and not very delicious. In the future, they will have perfected the process. You’ll order hamburgers that come from factories, not cows. Scientists may even find ways to make lab-grown meat tastier and healthier than the real thing. 4. According to the passage, what is likely to happen when robots become more common in the future? A. People will be much lazier. B. More people will lose their jobs. C. People may become physically weaker. D. More people may become less intelligent. 5. Mind-reading technology will help people to _________. A. have a good memory B. talk to other creatures C. read books efficiently D. convey messages silently 6. Future meat will be ________. A. much more affordable B. less tasty but healthier C. more organic and delicious D. more environmentally friendly 7. What is the passage mainly about? A. The history of human life. B. The predictable future life. C. The development of science. D. The latest scientific findings. C I am always nervous when I get an email from my parents with"FYI(For Your Information)". My parents are in their late 70s, and while they are quite healthy for their ages, I worry about what messages they are going to give me. I got such an email in September from my father. He sent an email from my cousin who told that her father, my uncle Reese, had passed away. The news made my mind go blank though I have met him less than a dozen times in my life, because Reese was the first of my parents’ siblings(兄弟姐妹) to die, and I was simply not ready for that. The memorial service was set in Florida, and I quickly decided I needed to go. I needed to be there for my father, and I needed to go for myself. Reese is about nine years older than my father, and I started to do the math in my head. I know that doesn’t make sense, but I will do anything to reason that I still have a lot of time before I will be in my cousin’s shoes. Reese’s memorial service was small with only family and perhaps a dozen of his friends. The funeral (葬礼)was attended by an even smaller number, and then, the family gathered at a nearby bar to look at old photographs found among Reese’s possessions when he died. As we drove back to the Orlando International Airport, I thought about how I am not sure what my parents want, not only in their memorial services, but also how they want to be remembered and where they want to be laid to rest. These are going to be difficult conversations, but I know I need to have them. Maybe not right now, but we do need to open the discussion at some point. It may feel too early, but I trust my parents will know that when adult children raise these questions, we do it out of love to honor their lives and their wishes. 8.Why do emails with"FYI"make the author uneasy? A.She’s too busy to read those emails. B.She dislikes her parents’ nonstop talking. C.They often bring unpleasant news. D.She’s afraid to get bad news about her parents. 9.How did the author feel about the email from her cousin? A.Disappointed. B.Shocked. C.Confused. D.Annoyed. 10.What do we know from the third and fourth paragraphs? A.A get-together was held at home. B.Reese’s friends didn’t appear. C.Not many people attended the funeral. D.The author hesitated to go to Florida. 11.What does the author decide to do after the funeral? A.Express her love for her parents bravely. B.Have a talk with her parents about death. C.Value her parents’ wishes. D.Get everything ready for her parents. D Two of the saddest words in the English language are if only. I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regret, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment. My father is famous in our family for saying, “Take the extra minute to do it right”’. I always try to live by the extra minute rule. When my children were young and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an if only moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter, or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (衬垫)onto the sharp comers of a glass coffee table. I don’t only avoid those if only moments when it comes to safety. It’s equally important to avoid if only in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say I love you or I forgive you. When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday,I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn’t be here. But then I thought about the fact that he’ s 84 years old and I realized that I shouldn’t give up an opportunity to see him. I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all. I know there will still be occasions when I have to say if only about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection, I know that I’m doing the right thing. I’m buying myself peace of mind and that’s the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being. 12.Which of the following is an example of the extra minute rule? A.Start the car the moment everyone is seated. B.Leave the room for a minute with the iron working. C.Wait for an extra minute so that the steak tastes better. D.Move an object out of the way before it trips someone. 13.The author decided to go to her office on Good Friday to • A.keep her appointment with the eye doctor B.meet her father who was already an old man. C.join in the holiday celebration of the company D.finish her work before the deadline approached . 14.The underlined word foregone in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to • A.abandoned B.lacked C.avoided D.wasted 15.What is the best title for the passage? A.The Emotional Well-being B.The Two Saddest Words. C.To do the right thing D.The Peace of Mind 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Maybe you are an average student. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be overly worried. There are other methods that might help you with your study. Last month several places in Beijing were blanketed in heavy smog, because of which people suffered a great deal. People's health is threatened, especially for the children, the elderly and those who have certain diseases such as allergy and lung problems. Furthermore, more traffic jams and accidents occurred due to poor visibility caused by thick smog. If we trace the causes, besides weather conditions, the main cause is harmful emissions from vehicles and the waste from various industrial factories. Luckily our government is taking positive measures to improve air quality by developing green energy such as wind and solar energy. In the meanwhile, we call on everyone to lead a low-carbon life to build an eco-friendly environment. Yours , Li Hua查看更多
