It is the largest subtropical wilderness (亚热带的荒地) in the entire country and accounts for 25% of the wetlands in the state. The park is home to several rare and endangered species. It is also the third largest national park in the lower fortyeight states, after Death Valley and Yellowstone. Each year, approximately one million tourists visit the park. On a global level, it has been declared a World Heritage Site. Unlike most other national parks, Everglades National Park was created to protect an ecosystem from damage. In 1947, President Harry Truman spoke at the official opening of Everglades National Park, saying the goal of creating the park was to protect forever a wild area that could never be replaced. 10,000 different islands make up Everglades National Park. Each of these islands is occupied by natural wildlife. The human population primarily includes wildlife administrators. The Everglades is home to about 15 species that are threatened and endangered, including the Florida panther, the American crocodile (鳄鱼) and the West Indian manatee. In addition, more than 350 bird species and 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish live within the park. The Everglades is also home to 40 species of mammals and 50 reptile species. There are many ways to explore the Everglades. Visitors can see alligators (短吻鳄) while hiking the Anhinga Trail. The Everglades is one of the only places on Earth where freshwater alligators and saltwater crocodiles live in the same area. Visitors using airboats are likely to see large groups of wading birds (涉水鸟) like the wood stork or the great blue heron. It is even possible to see flamingos in the Everglades. Some visitors might enjoy riding bicycles through Shark Valley. Others may want to move slowly through shallow waters where they can see insects and wildlife up close. According to experts, changes to the Everglades are threatening several different kinds of wildlife. They say the threats are a result of actions the US government began more than 50 years ago, and settlers began even earlier. 1.From the first paragraph, we know Everglades National Park ________. A.is of great value B.enjoys tropical weather C.receives few visitors every year D.is the largest wilderness in the world. 2.Paragraph 3 is mainly about Everglades National Park's ________. A.the wood stork doesn't like water B.visitors can't use bikes in the Everglades C.it's tough work to hike the Anhinga Trail D.flamingos aren't a common sight in the Everglades 4.What do we know from the text? A.No people live in Everglades National Park. B.Alligators and crocodiles get on well in the Everglades. C.The West Indian manatee has died out in the Everglades. D.A President suggested creating Everglades National Park. 5.What will probably be further discussed following the last paragraph? A.What can be done to help save the wetlands. B.What the government has done to protect the park. C.How important endangered wildlife is to the world. D.The damage to Everglades National Park's environment. Ⅲ. [1]When many of us think of robots, we picture large, metal objects in the shape of humans, having difficulty moving around. But robots have come a long way. A team at Harvard University in Massachusetts recently developed a softbodied robot. The team based the design of its robot on sea creatures without hard shells or skeletons(骨架). [2]The robotic device was made with soft materials called elastomers It is about thirteen centimeters long and has four legs that can move separately. The movements are controlled by compressed (被压缩的) air and can be operated from a computer. [3]The robot itself took two months to develop. In tests, researchers have guided the robot under a plate of glass less than three centimeters high. The researchers say their invention can move ________________ about thirteen meters an hour. A report about the robot was published in November in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. [4]Increasingly, soft robots are being developed for difficult jobs like moving through a battlefield or wreckage (残骸) from a natural disaster. The robot can move across uneven surfaces including small rocks and wet dirt. [5]Earlier this year, scientists from Tufts University in Massachusetts developed another kind of soft robot made of silicone rubber(硅胶). This robot is about ten centimeters long and shaped like a caterpillar It is able to roll up into a ball shape and move itself forward. But researchers say there are difficulties in making these robots move. For one, they want to find a way for the robot to transport its own power source. They are also hoping to improve its speed. 1.What is our impression of robots?(no more than 15 words) ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 2.How does the softbodied robot move?(no more than 15 words) ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 3.Fill in the blank in Paragraph 3 with proper words.(no more than 5 words) ________________________________________________________________________ 4.What are soft robots developed for?(no more than 25 words) ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 5.What is the last paragraph mainly about?(no more than 10 words) ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 答 案 课时跟踪检测(三十二) Ⅰ.1.选B 由I have an interview this afternoon 可知选All the best“祝一切顺利”。That's my first choice“那是我的首选”;Well done“做得好”;That's wonderful“那太好了”。 2. the construction of(……的建筑),which指代 the museum。 4. sympathy意为“同情;同情心”; have sympathy for意为“对…… conduct“指挥;管理;主持”;alarm“使警觉;使惊恐;惊动”;declare“宣布;声明;表明;宣称”。 6. 9.选D do sb. a favour“帮某人一个忙”,符合题意。 ambition“雄心;野心”;desire“渴望;欲望;渴求”;challenge“挑战”。 10. ring up“ 打电话”;ring back“回电话”。 11. be fortunate to do sth.“幸运地做某事”;be eager to do sth.“渴望做某事”;be bound to do sth.“一定做某事”;be willing to do sth.“愿意做某事”。 exchange“交流;交换”;declare“宣称;声明”;change“改变”;express“表达;表示”。 It is even possible to see flamingos in the Everglades可以推断出火烈鸟在该公园不是很常见,故D项正确。 4. The Everglades is one of the only places on Earth where freshwater alligators and saltwater crocodiles live in the same area. Ⅲ.1.They are large, metal objects in the shape of humans, having difficulty moving around. 2.The movements are controlled by compressed air and operated from a computer. 3.at a speed of 4.They are developed for difficult jobs like moving through a battlefield or wreckage from a natural disaster. 5.A new kind of soft robot made of silicone rubber.
