Jason Rentfrow and Samuel Gosling gave 3,500 people a personality quiz. “We found that the musical styles people like are closely linked to their personalities,” Gosling says. RAP/HIP-HOP Known for their quick speech, some rappers can say more than 700 syllables(音节)a minute! If you like rap/hip-hop, you are energetic(精力充沛的)and have a way with words. You put a fresh spin on things, whether it’s new moves on the dance floor or your hip style. CLASSICAL In the 18th century, classical musicians were like rock stars. Beethoven and Mozart, for example, played in crowded concert halls. If you like classical, you are open to new ideas and like debating with friends. Creative and imaginative, you can easily spend many hours scrapbooking, writing or painting. COUNTRY Country music came from the folk songs of English, Scottish, and Irish settlers of the southeastern United States. If you like country, you express your opinions well, which makes you the ideal class president or team captain. Traditional and loyal, you enjoy spending time with your family. POP Pop music is designed to attract almost everyone, and it does. Each year, the industry brings in about 30 billion dollars! If you like pop, you are attractive to your friends. You can make big things happen, like planning for a huge party or inspiring your team to victory. ROCK/ALTERNATIVE In the 1950s, rock music created a brand-new culture. Teenagers, for the first time, had an identity separate from adults and children. If you like rock/alternative, you are a risk-taker who never accepts no for an answer. You rise to any challenge, like doing very well in a big exam or landing the lead in the school play. If these personality profiles(人格剖析)don’t match you, that’s OK. These are just for fun. 25.What is the purpose of the quiz mentioned in the text? A. To encourage people to enjoy music. B. To lead people to know about music. C. To know the relationship between music and personalities. D. To identify the differences in personality among people. 26.Who would be chosen as the best class head? A. A country lover. B. A classical lover. C. A hip-hop lover. D. A rock lover. 27.Which type of music is popular among teenagers? A. Pop. B. Rock. C. Classical. D. Country. C Average humans can consume 15 or more drinks in plastic bottles a month. If you were born after 1998, and live until 80 years old, you will leave behind a minimum of 14, 4000 plastic bottles on this planet. These bottles take hundreds of years to break down into tiny pieces of plastic, never to completely disappear. Most of the waste is consumed by fish and birds, which has shortened their lifespans greatly. The Plastic Bottle Village is just a great idea that might finally save us from being buried in plastic. It5s a community in Panama that is going to be made of used bottles. The design process begins with building steel frames, which are then filled with these bottles. Once this step is complete, and electrical and plumping lines are put inside, the plastic walls are covered with concrete (混凝土)—both inside and outside. So no one will actually be able to tell that the walls are made of plastic. Besides, the material will keep the house 17℃ cooler than the outside, which is the biggest benefit to people living inside. The village is the idea of Robert Bezeau with the intention of setting up several environmental projects. Having started a recycling program four years ago, during which a number of plastic bottles were collected, he started to think of how they could be put to use. Soon enough, he decided to use them to build houses, and came up with a basic idea for the construction process. The project hopes to make people conscious of the waste that these bottles create so that they can do more to protect the environment. The village will also create an education center that will teach individuals from the world how to reuse plastic bottles as construction materials for shelter. Recycled bottles could neutralize(使……无效) the negative effect of your passage on this planet, and move closer to leaving only your “footprints”. 28.What do the figures in the first paragraph show? A. The reason for buying fewer drinks. B. The seriousness of plastic pollution. C. The amount of plastic waste. D. The difficult situation of wildlife. 29.Why are the homes in the village special? A. They’re green buildings. B. They’re 17℃ warmer inside. C. They stop plastic pollution. D. They’re entirely made of plastic bottles. 30.What can we know from the passage? A. Plastic bottles are difficult to break down so that they are liked by fish and birds. B. Robert Bezeau is leader of a community in, Panama responsible for the project. C. The project of the Plastic Bottle Village can raise peopled environmental awareness. D. Individuals can learn how to produce plastic bottles without polluting the environment. 31.What would be the best title for the passage? A. An Eco-Friendly Plastic Bottle Village B. The Negative Effects of Plastic Bottles C. How to Collect Deserted Plastic Bottles D. How to Popularize the Use of Plastic Bottles D Minutes after the last movie ended yesterday at the Plaza Theater, employees were busy sweeping up popcorns and gathering coke cups. It was a scene that had been repeated many times in the theater’s 75-year history. This time, however, the cleanup was a little different. As one group of workers carried out the rubbish, another group began removing seats and other theater equipment in preparation for the building’s end. The film classic The Last Picture Show was the last movie shown in the old theater. Though the movie is 30 years old, most of the 250 seats were filled with teary-eyed audience wanting to say good-bye to the old building. Theater owner Ed Bradford said he chose the movie because it seemed proper. The movie is set in a small town where the only movie theater is preparing to close down. Bradford said that large modem theaters in the city made it impossible for the Plaza to compete. He added that the theater’s location (位置) was also a reason. “This used to be the center of town,” he said. “Now the area is mostly office buildings and warehouses.” Last week some city officials suggested the city might be interested in turning the old theater into a museum and public meeting place. However, these plans were given up because of financial problems. Bradford sold the building and land to a local development firm, which plans to build a shopping complex on the land where the theater is located. The theater audience said good-bye as Bradford locked the doors for the last time. After 75 years the Plaza Theater has shown its last movie. The theater will be missed. 32.In what way was yesterday’s cleanup at the Plaza special? A. It made room for new equipment. B. It signaled the closedown of the theater. C. It was done with the help of the audience. D. It marked the 75th anniversary of the theater. 33.Why was The Last Picture Stow put on? A. It was an all-time classic. B. It was about the history of the town. C. The audience requested it. D. The theater owner found it suitable. 34.What will probably happen to the building? A. It will b& repaired. B. It will be turned into a museum. C. It will be knocked down. D. It will be sold to the city government. 35.What can we infer about the audience? A. They are disappointed with Bradford. B. They are sad to say goodbye to the old theater. C. They are supportive of the city officials. D. They are keen to have a shopping center. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 36.You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how: Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First set your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. 37. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time. Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject. Make good use of your time in class. 38. Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says. Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss next day, read that material. 39. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you’ll remember it longer. Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried. 40.You will probably discover many others after you have tried these. A. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. B. There are other methods that might help you with your studying. C. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says.
