As a school girl and young adult, I feared him and felt bitter about him. He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A’s and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as “successful” as he was. Whenever I went out with him on weekends, I used to struggle to think up things to say, feeling on guard. He would call in advance to make sure there was no alcohol at the party. I got so angry with him for laying down the law. I would scream, “I hate you!” Dad would yell back, “Good! I don’t care!” Deep down I knew he did. One time at a party, I drank too much alcohol and got so sick. I said, “Call my dad.” Next thing, Dad was carrying me to the car. I woke up the next morning, thinking I would definitely be criticized(批评). As expected, I got a roasting, but I now understand why I need discipline(纪律). Dad was 29 when he got his big roles in films. I had an early start at the age of nine with a role in a 1990s TV series, but it wasn’t until I finished film studies that I pursued my career as an actress. Like those early days for Dad, I faced lots of rejections. Working in such a competitive industry, I’ve sometimes thought, “I can’t do this anymore.” Once, after a trip to Hollywood, I returned to Australia so depressed and spent months in my bedroom painting, listening to Eckhart Tolle’s music and trying to find myself again. Dad sat me down and said, “Alice, I know it’s hard, but it’s all about persistence(坚持不懈).” Now I get to work with Dad a lot, which I love. We are both enthusiastic about acting, which comes from us being so interested in people. If it weren’t for Dad, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s my biggest fan, and when you have that in your life you can go a long way. 21. Which of the following is similar in meaning to the underlined part? A.I was scolded. B.I was pulled out of bed. C.I got out of trouble. D.I was comforted. 22. What can we learn from the passage? A.As an actor, her father’s career is always smooth. B .It is her father who has helped shape the author who she is. C. She would feel tired when going out with her father on weekends. D. She was bitter about her father as a school girl as he was too proud of himself. 23. Which of the following best describes the writer’s father? A. Cruel and impatient B. Talkative and hard-working. C. Proud but gentle. D. Strict but caring. B The popularity of farmers’ markets along with concerns over food safety is making the number of school leavers taking agriculture courses increase rapidly. Large numbers of 16-to-18-year-olds are taking qualifications in subjects such as agriculture and food despite lack of background in farming. Jeanette Dawson, head of Bishop Burton College, said women were also taking up courses at an increasing rate. She said it was related to a series of food scandals (丑闻), such as the discovery of horse-meat in frozen meals sold in the major supermarkets. But the movement was also promoted by an increased awareness of the importance of local food and produce. The subjects are also increasingly popular at university-level. Mrs. Dawson said there were a lot of young people who weren’t from farming backgrounds. But there had been a growth in the number of them accessing agriculture programs with a view to a career in the industry. She said agriculture was an “applied science, with the great outdoors as its laboratory”. “We have benefited from the interest that the public has in food,” she said. “I never underestimate (低估)the ability of teenagers to pick up on it. The more it is in the media, the more it interests young people. Whenever I go into my local pub, it has on the blackboard where the meat is from. Everyone is interested in buying local food and knowing where their food is from.” The comments were made as Bishop Burton prepares to expand with a £13 million project whose new site — due to open in September 2020— will be the college’s second in the county, in addition to one at nearby Riseholme. The college is currently in a battle with Lincoln University over ownership of the Riseholme campus, which is used for courses such as agriculture and animal management. And the university plans to build houses on the site. 24. What is making large numbers of students take agriculture courses? A. Colleges are offering more agriculture courses. B. Students don’t need to have a farming background C. People are increasingly concerned about food security. D. Farmers come to regard agriculture as an applied science. 25. What can we learn from the passage? A. Bishop Burton College is going to build a new campus. B. People never cared about where the food was from before. C. The number of women taking agriculture courses is decreasing. D. Students need a farming background in taking agriculture courses. 26. What does the writer mainly discuss in the passage? A. Job opportunity. B. Food safety measures. C. Expansion of university. D. Popularity of agriculture courses. C Many good parents feel that they have to punish their children sometimes. But other parents find that they can successfully manage without ever having to punish. A lot depends on how the parents were brought up. If they were punished occasionally for good reason, they naturally expect to have to punish in similar situations. Actually, there are a number of poorly-behaved children. The parents of some of them punish a lot, and the parents of others never do. So we can’t say that punishment always works or that lack of it always works. It all depends on the nature of the parents’ discipline (管教) in general. Before we go further with the subject of punishment, we ought to realize that it is never the main element in discipline. It’s only a reminder that the parents feel strongly about what they say. We have all seen children who have been slapped(掌掴) and beaten on their bottoms, and yet remained ill-behaved. The main source of good discipline is growing up in a loving family — being loved and learning to love in return. Habitual criminals are people who in childhood were never loved enough to make much difference to them. Many of them were also abused(虐待) or were witnesses to violence. Another vital element is children’s great desire to be as much like their parents as possible. They work particularly hard at being polite, civilized and responsible. They pretend very seriously to take care of their dolls, keep house and go out to work, just as they see their parents do. In automobile terms, the child supplies the power, but the parents have to do the steering. For most children, most of the time, a disapproving look or word from a parent is enough to direct the child back on the right track. Children’s motives are good, but they don’t have the experience to stay on the road. The parents have to keep saying, “We hold hands when we cross the street,” “It’s time to go to bed so you’ll grow up to be big and strong,” and on and on. 27. Parents’ attitude towards punishment is decided by_________. A. their role of punishment B. their power over their children C. their ill-treatment during childhood D. their experiences of being brought up 28. The author probably believes that ______. A. children from a loving family will behave well B. children will grow into loving others naturally C. punishment is a must when it is necessary D. punishment helps parents behave children properly 29.The underlined word “steering” in the last paragraph most probably means __________? . A. learning B. driving C. working D. punishing 30. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Punishment and Discipline. B. Is Punishment Necessary? C. Parents’ Role Model. D. Like Father, Like Son. As you enter a university, you turn to a new page where life is quite different from before. 31. That is the conclusion of British anthropologists (人类学家) Russell Hill and Robert Barton of the University of Durham, after studying the results of one-on-one boxing, tae kwon do(跆拳道), Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling matches at the Olympic Games. Their study shows that when a competitor is equally matched with an opponent in fitness and skill, the athlete wearing red is more likely to win. Hill and Barton report that when one contestant is much better than the other, colour has no effect on the result. However, when there is only a small difference between them, the effect of colour can tip the balance. The anthropologists say that the number of times red wins is not simply by chance, but that these results are statistically significant(统计意义重大). Hill and Barton got the idea for their research because of the role that the colour red plays in the animal world. "Red seems to be the colour, across species, that signals male advantages, "Barton says. They thought that there might be a similar effect in humans. Another study shows the effect of red among birds In an experiment, scientists put red plastic rings on the legs of male zebra finches (雀科鸣禽)and this increased the birds success with female zebra finches. Zebra finches already have bright red beaks(喙), so this study suggests that, as with Olympic athletes, an extra flash of red is significant. In fact, researchers from the University of Glasgow say that the birds, brightly coloured beaks are an indicator of health. They think they have found proof that bright red or orange beaks attract females because they mean that the males are healthier. Meanwhile, what about those athletes who win in their events while wearing red? Do their clothes give them an unintentional advantage? Robert Barton accepts that that is the result of their findings. Is it time for sports authorities to consider new regulations on sports clothing? ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 泉州第十六中学2019年秋季高二年10月月考 英语试卷答案 听力:1--20 ABABC BCBAA BABAB CABAB 阅读:21-23 ABD 24-26 CAD 27-30 DABB 七选五 :31—35 GBECD 完形填空 36-40 ABCDD 41-45CBBCC 46-50BCDAB 51-55BCDBA 语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了“兄弟捉迷藏,打碎明花瓶;惹母发雷霆,买瓶弥补之!” 37.B 根据下文in the front room可知,我们捉迷藏的空间不够,所以选space。 45.C 句中how could have done表示“过去怎么竟敢做某事”。must have done只能用在肯定句中;would have done一般用在虚拟语气中;might have done表示“可能性很小”。 49.A 此处make up for是固定表达,表示“对…… 56.who 57. dressed 58.homeless 59.totally 60.wearing 61. kindness 62. paid 63. to treat, 64. by/from 65 an 应用文One possible version Dear Sir/Madam, I’m John, a senior 3 student from America.
