On your next trip you can either visit those same cities a second time, or instead you can take a chance and walk the streets of some cities that are a little bit smaller, a little bit less famous, but still full of European grace and charm. Here are four European cities to visit that you probably haven't been to yet.‎ Besancon, France This hidden French city has had a long reputation for being a well-kept secret. It can be at once sleepy with few tourists but abundant galleries, restaurants, and a wonderful Beaux Arts museum whose collection is second only to the Louvre. The city is wound by the River Doubs and also is very proud of its own UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Citadel, home to several small museums and a zoo.‎ Seville, Spain For the tourist who is already tired of Barcelona and Madrid, Seville offers a different taste on Spain. Located on the Southern coast, it keeps beautiful signs of the long period of Moorish rule, nowhere more than in the Alcázar palace building, just one of the city's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Seville has over a dozen museums, tropical parkland, and probably the best tapas (餐前小吃) culture in all of ‎ Spain.‎ Ghent, Belgium Ghent is a city that looks like it should be the setting for a fairy tale. All of the classic Belgium features can be found here — waffles and beer. Every year from Saturday before July 21, Ghent hosts a ten-day festival. This music and theater festival draws almost 2 million visitors, as the city streets transform into performance spaces for performers, and musicians.‎ Palermo, Italy Palermo is the capital city of Sicily, the southern island off the coast of mainland Italy. The city has an ancient history, and the various cultures that have controlled the island through the years have all left their marks on it. You can see winding street markets, antique fairs, and open air nightclubs here.‎ ‎21. Where can visitors enjoy art collections quietly?‎ A. Besancon. B. Barcelona. C. Ghent. D. Palermo.‎ ‎22. Which country should a music and theater lover choose to visit?‎ A. France. B. Spain. C. Belgium. D. Italy.‎ ‎23. What do the four European cities have in common?‎ A. They were once ruled by various rulers.‎ B. They are less famous but worth a visit.‎ C. Visitors can enjoy seeing performances.‎ D. They're all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.‎ B You are given many opportunities in life to choose to be a victim or creator. When you choose to be a victim, the world is a cold and difficult place. “They” did things to you which caused all of your pain and suffering. “They” are wrong and bad, and life is terrible as long as “they” are around. Or you may blame yourself for all your problems, thus internalizing(内化)your victimization. The truth is, your life is likely to stay that way as long as you feel a need to blame yourself or others.‎ Those who choose to be creators look at life quite differently. They know there are individuals who might like to control their lives, but they don’t let this get ‎ in the way. They know they have their weaknesses, yet they don’t blame themselves when they fail. Whatever happens, they have choice in the matter. They believe their dance with each sacred(神圣的)moment of life is a gift and that storms are a natural part of life which can bring the rain needed for emotional and spiritual growth.‎ Victims and creators live in the same physical world and deal with many of the same physical realities, yet their experience of life is worlds apart. Victims relish (沉溺)in anger, guilt, and other emotions that cause others---and even themselves---to feel like victims, too. Creators consciously choose love, inspiration, and other qualities which inspire not only themselves, but all around them. Both victims and creators always have choice to determine the direction of their lives.‎ In reality, all of us play the victim or the creator at various points in our lives. One person, on losing a job or a special relationship, may feel as if it is the end of the world and sink into terrible suffering for months, years, or even a lifetime. Another with the same experience may choose to first experience the grief, then accept the loss and soon move on to be a powerful creative force in his life.‎ In every moment and every circumstance, you can choose to have fuller, richer life by setting a clear intention to transform the victim within, and by inviting into your life the powerful creator that you are.‎ ‎24. According to Paragraph 2,creators ________.‎ ‎ A. seem willing to experience failures in life ‎ B. possess the ability to predict future life ‎ C. handle ups and downs of life wisely ‎ D. have potential to create something new ‎25. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?‎ ‎ A. Creators and victims face quite different things in life.‎ ‎ B. Creators and victims are masters of their lives.‎ C. Victims can influence more people than creators.‎ ‎ D. Compared with victims, creators are more emotional.‎ ‎26. The examples mentioned in Paragraph 4 show that ________.‎ ‎ A. strong attachment to sufferings in life pulls people into victims.‎ ‎ B. people need family support to deal with challengers in life.‎ ‎ C. it takes creators quite a long time to get rid of their pains.‎ ‎ D. one’s experiences determine his attitude toward life.‎ ‎27. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?‎ ‎ A. To introduce what victims are suffering.‎ ‎ B. To protect victims against creators.‎ ‎ C. To explain the relationship between victims and creators.‎ ‎ D. To suggest the transformation from victims to creators.‎ C Why does time speed up as you age but slow down when you're scared? And why does it warp(弯曲) when you are on holiday?‎ ‎ As Albert Einstein once said, time only exists so that everything doesn't happen at once. But the problem of it passing too slowly or quickly has now been examined by psychologist, Claudia Hammond, who looked at how our emotions, health, and age can affect the speed of the time in our minds.‎ ‎ Ms. Hammond found that time speeds up as you get older and passes faster if you are relaxed rather than scared. Her book, Them Warped, also explains how time passes twice as fast if you are in amusing company, rather than with someone who is boring.‎ ‎ She also studied French explorer, Michael Suffer, who in 1962 spent two months living in an underground cave to discover how isolation from the out, clocks and routines would affect him. He completely lost track of time while in the cave and his waking days lasted from 6 to 40 hours, but the average length was the same time as the length of a day on earth—24 hour.‎ ‎ Ms. Hammond also studied how fear or hearing somebody crying can slow down time, and said that half of people believe time is moving towards us, while everyone else sees themselves moving through it. "People always believe they will have more free time in the future," she said, adding that there are plenty of practical methods for ensuring that we can try our best to accurately estimate our schedules. But while we may spend much of our lives worrying about time, there is, surprisingly, no single ‎ part of the brain for specifically measuring the passing of minutes and hours, Ms. Hammond concluded.‎ ‎ "Human beings tending to process events in three-second intervals(间隔)一such as how long it takes to complete a handshake or scan the headlines of a newspaper page—compare it to the clock time," she said.‎ ‎28. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?‎ A. Time goes much faster when people are growing up.‎ B. People's feeling about time passing is affected by their emotions, health and age.‎ C. Einstein has explained why time passes at different speeds.‎ D. The speed of time is affected by only three factors.‎ ‎29. What can we learn from the example of Michael Suffer?‎ ‎ A. People can keep awake for no less than 6 hours.‎ ‎ B. Daylight affects people's waking time more than anything else.‎ ‎ C. Time speeds up when people are in darkness.‎ ‎ D. People's sense of time can be affected by daylight.‎ ‎30. In paragraph 5 Ms. Hammond found that  .‎ ‎ A. negative emotions could slow down time ‎ B. no simple part of the human brain measures time ‎ C. people cannot estimate their schedules accurately ‎ D. most people worry there will be not enough free time in the future ‎31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. Three second intervals are common in handshakes.‎ ‎ B. People's rhythms of speech are all the same.‎ ‎ C. People tend to measure time in terms of short small actions.‎ ‎ D. Clock times lead to the rhythm of people's handshakes.‎ ‎ D A food additive (添加剂) is any substance that is added to food. Many people are put off by the idea of “chemicals in food.” The truth is that all food is made up of chemicals. Natural substances like milk, as well as man-made ones like drinks on ‎ sale in the market, can be described by chemical formulas. Some chemical substances are indeed harmful, but a person who refused to consume any chemicals would find nothing to eat.‎ The things we eat can be divided into natural and man-made substances. Some people feel that only natural foods are healthy and that all man-made ingredients are to be avoided. But many natural chemicals, found in plants and animals, are harmful when eaten, and some laboratory-made substances increase the nutritional value of food. Other chemicals have natural and man-made forms that are exactly alike: vitamin C is vitamin C, whether it comes from a test tube or from an orange. Like “chemical”, “man-made” doesn’t necessarily mean “not fit to eat”.‎ Food additives are used for many reasons. We add sugar and salt and other things to foods we prepare at home to make them taste better. Food producers have developed a range of additives that stabilize, thicken, harden, keep wet, keep firm, or improve the appearance of their products. Additives can make food more convenient or nutritious, give it a longer shelf life, and make it more attractive to the consumer, thus increasing the sales and profits of the producers.‎ Food additives are presently the centre of a storm of serious argument. Food producers have been known to use additives that have not been proved safe; some substances in common use have been proved unsafe and have been taken off the market. Many people feel there’s a risk of eating food to which anything has been added. But food additives are now regulated by the FDA of the federal government, and new additives will go through strict testing before they can be placed on the market. For most people, the chances of developing serious side effects (副作用) from the long-term use of presently approved (批准) food additives are very small.‎ ‎32.From the passage we can learn that .‎ A.natural foods are much safer than man-made ones B.it is right to refuse chemicals in food C.food additives are harmful to our health D.all foods have chemical substances ‎33.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?‎ A.Food additives can improve the quality of foods in many ways.‎ B.To ensure food safety, the FDA will stop food additives.‎ C.Foods free of additives can keep a much longer shelf life.‎ D.Foods with more additives have higher nutritional value.‎ ‎34.We can infer from the regulation to the food additives by the FDA that .‎ A.new additives will be approved(批准,赞成) more easily than before B.food with common-used additives will be taken off the market C.food additives will be used in a safer and more scientific way D.food producers won’t be allowed to use new food additives ‎35.According to the writer, the food additive is .‎ A.worrying B.acceptable C.poisonous D.avoidable 第二节 任务型阅读 根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ We all wish we had just a bit more time. Just think what you could do with an extra hour or two each day: you could finally stick to an exercise routine, or springclean the house, or write your novel, or learn the guitar and so on. 36. But I can help you find more hours in your day for the things that really matter.‎ ‎◆ Get Out of Bed Earlier If you normally get up at 7:30 a.m., try getting up at 7:00 a.m. That halfhour might not sound like much, but it could be time that you use to exercise, to read that book you've been meaning to finish. 37.‎ ‎◆ Do the Important Tasks First Once you get to work, get the important ones done first (not the easy ones, or even the urgent ones). When you're working, work. If your concentration is slipping, take a proper break: go and get a glass of water, or stretch your legs a bit. And if you're facing a difficult task, try breaking it into small steps or stages so that it's easier to deal with.‎ A.Stay Focused on Your Work.‎ B.Take Breaks When Necessary.‎ C.If you have an office door, close it.‎ D.If you work like this, you'll usually save time.‎ E.Would you want me to make your day longer?‎ F.I can't magically make all your days 25 hours long.‎ G.Or simply to get your day off to a calm and organized start.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填空白处的最佳选项。‎ As a teacher, I often make it a rule that when we are on a field trip, there will be no talking as we enter a building. This rule 41 to entering any place, whether it is a cinema,a church,a theatre, or any other place.‎ ‎ Once,in New York City,I took my class to see a(n) 42 near Times Square. When ‎ we arrived at the theatre, there were about twenty other classes 43 outside waiting to get in.The students from the other schools were not 44 and there was pandemonium(乌烟瘴气).I told my students to stay in a line and keep 45 .I told them that we would not carry ourselves like those other 46 .Soon we started to file into the theatre, and it was very disorganized. There was a lady trying to 47 the groups and get them to their seats,48 students were everywhere and 49 really knew where to go.My class, observing our rule, walked in 50 in two single-file lines. We stood near the door behind everyone else, and we 51 .All of a sudden, the lady who was 52 noticed us and she walked 53 our direction. She asked the students 54 the teacher was for our group, and I raised my 55 .She asked, “Very, very nice to meet you.Come this way.”We were led into the theatre, 56 ,and we were given front-row seats.‎ Sometimes 57 for others may not seem like it is going to have an effect, especially when you 58 no one around who is taking manners into 59 .However, that is usually the time when such 60 actions will be most appreciated and recognized.‎ ‎41.A.leads B.applies C.turns D.belongs ‎42.A.play B.lady C.teacher D.exhibition ‎43.A.sorted out B.settled down C.turned away D.lined up ‎44.A.behaving B.listening C.concentrating D.watching ‎45.A.order B.contact C.watch D.time ‎46.A.places B.seats C.classes D.teachers ‎47.A.scold B.dismiss C.attract D.organize ‎48.A.and B.but C.so D.while ‎49.A.anyone B.nobody C.everyone D.somebody ‎50.A.anxiously B.immediately C.quietly D.hurriedly ‎51.A.passed B.chatted C.rushed D.waited ‎52.A.in trouble B.on guard C.in charge D.on business ‎53.A.in B.to C.for D.under ‎54.A.how B.where C.what D.whether ‎55.A.voice B.arm C.head D.hand ‎56.A.finally B.somehow C.first D.instead ‎57.A.respect B.love C.concern D.support ‎58.A.receive B.visit C.recognize D.meet ‎59.A.practice B.effect C.account D.operation ‎60.A.urgent B.kind C.legal D.firm 第 II 卷 (满分50分)‎ 第二节:语法填空(共10小题,每小题1.5分,共15分)‎ 阅读下列短文,根据短文内容填空。‎ China's research icebreaker Xuelong, 61 126 crew members aboard on the 35th Antarctic research mission, on Thursday local time left the Zhongshan Stati on 62 (it) way back to China.‎ Snow Eagle 601,China’s first fixed-wing aircraft for polar flight,on Thursday night also departed from the Antarctic after 63 (complete) all assignments.‎ Xuelong, 64 arrived near Zhongshan on Feb 9, supplied the station with fuel oil, and then picked up summer expedition team members at the Kunlun, Taishan and Zhongshan stations, as well as 65 (member) of the fixed-wing aircraft project.‎ Sixteen members of the Kunlun team 66 (previous) completed all scientific expeditions at Dome Argus(Dome A), the South Pole’s highest icecap.
