Many single people complain that France’s capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon ‎ known as “supermarket dating.” At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall, or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list. At this Paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn. With purple baskets in hand, shoppers can consider their romantic options while they pick out their groceries. When they are ready to pay, they can go to a special checkout line for singles who want to chat. Most of the people who look for love in the supermarket are doubtful about Internet dating. They know that it is easy to embellish (美化) one’s appearance or to lie about one’s age over the Internet. The supermarket, on the other hand, is considered a safe and casual environment where dating can be trusted more. In addition, what one finds in another’s grocery basket can say a thing or two about that person’s character or intentions. Buying pet food can be a man’s way of showing a potential match that he has a sensitive side. Women who fill their baskets with low-fat food show their healthy style of living. These days it’s possible to find much more than food at a grocery store.‎ ‎25. What do many single people in Pairs complain about?‎ A. The idea of supermarket dating. B. The difficulty in meeting people. C. The items on their grocery list. D. The inconvenience in shopping.‎ ‎26. Which of the following can be inferred in the second paragraph?‎ A. They go through a special checkout. D. They dial the phone numbers on their shopping items.‎ ‎28. Why do the people prefer the supermarket dating to Internet dating?‎ A. The supermarket dating is more convenient. B. The supermarket dating is more difficult. C. The supermarket dating is less expensive.  D. The supermarket dating can be trusted more.‎ C Since ancient times, the Christmas Eve duty has been performed by a team of beloved reindeer (驯鹿). But as a new research shows the reindeer is becoming increasingly weak. A 16-year survey on the arctic Norwegian island of Svalbard found the reindeer there have declined(减少) in weight by an alarming 12 percent.‎ The reduction in average body-mass is being blamed on global warming. In the research presented lately at a meeting of the British Ecological Society in Liverpool, scientists have explained how rising temperatures are robbing female reindeer of nutrients during important periods of pregnancy (怀孕).‎ Snow in Svalbard typically covers the ground for eight months of the year, which, combined with low temperatures, limits grass growth to June and July. But as summer temperatures have increased by around 1.5 °C , grass has become more productive, allowing female reindeer to become fat by the autumn and therefore to have more babies. However, warmer winters have brought with them greater rainfall which freezes when it settles on the snow. Reindeer can often access the poor food sources beneath the snow by clearing it away with their antlers (鹿角),but they cannot break through the hard ice. As a result, female reindeer are becoming starved, causing them to abort their babies or giving birth to much lighter young.‎ Despite the findings, reindeer appear to be suffering less from the effect of climate change than some other arctic species. Last week the scientists warned that a third of the world’s polar bears could disappear in the next 40 years.‎ ‎29. Why do female reindeer become fat in autumn?‎ A. Grass has grown well since summer. B. They give birth to more babies.‎ C. The temperature is getting low. D. They often break through the hard ice.‎ ‎30. What can we infer from the text?‎ A. Reindeer have no trouble finding food in winter. B. Polar bears will disappear soon.‎ C. Climate change has no effect on reindeer. D. Polar bears suffer more from climate change.‎ ‎31. What does the text mainly talk about?‎ A. Reindeer has decreased in weight due to global warming.‎ B. The Christmas Eve duty will still be carried out by reindeer.‎ C. Global warming contributes to more young reindeer.‎ D. Many arctic species are at the risk of dying out.‎ ‎ ‎ D I left university with a good degree in English Literature, but no sense of what I wanted to do. Over the next six years, I was treading water, just trying to earn an income. I tried journalism, but I didn’t think I was any good, then finance, which I hated. Finally, I got a job as a rights assistant at a famous publisher. I loved working with books, although the job that I did was dull.‎ I had enough savings to take a year off work, and I decided to try to satisfy a deep-down wish to write a novel. Attending a Novel Writing MA course gave me the structure I needed to write my first 55,000 words.‎ It takes confidence to make a new start—there’s a dark period in-between where you’re neither one thing nor the other. You’re out for dinner and people ask what you do, and you’re too ashamed to say, “Well, I’m writing a novel, but I’m not quite sure if I’m going to get there. ”My confidence dived. Believing my novel could not be published, I put it aside.‎ Then I met an agent(代理商)who said I should send my novel out to agents. So, I did and, to my surprise, got some wonderful feedback. I felt a little hope that I might actually become a published writer and, after signing with an agent, I finished the second half of the novel.‎ The next problem was finding a publisher. After two-and-a-half years of no income, just waiting and wondering, a publisher offered me a book deal—that publisher turned out to be the ‎ one I once worked for.‎ It feels like an unbelievable stroke of luck—of fate, really. When you set out to do something different, there’s no end in sight, so to find myself in a position where I now have my own name on a contract(合同) of the publisher—to be a published writer—is unbelievably rewarding(有回报的).‎ ‎32. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 mean?‎ A.I was waiting for good luck. ‎ B. I was being aimless about a suitable job.‎ C. I was trying to find an admirable job.‎ D.I was doing several jobs for more pay at a time.‎ ‎33.The author decided to write a novel .‎ A. to finish the writing course B. to make readers happy C. to satisfy her own wish D. to earn more money ‎34. How did the writer feel halfway with the novel?‎ A. Disturbed. B. upset. C. Uncertain. D. Confident.‎ ‎35. What does the author mainly want to tell readers in the last paragraph?‎ A. There is no end in sight when starting to do something.‎ B .Failure is the mother of success.‎ C .She feels like being unexpectedly lucky.‎ D. It pays to stick to one’s goal.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分) ‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ How to Make Friends ‎ Friendship is a very important human relationship and everyone needs good friends.
