This one seems to sound logical to me. What do you do when you put on your sports shoes? You run! Therefore your sneakers shall be known as runners. For us Americans, runners often remind me of persons who take part in a race.‎ 2) Hotpress. Again, this seems totally logical to the Irish mind. The hotpress is the airing cupboard(保暖衣橱) where you might store sheets and towels, located next to the boiler. So therefore it is a press(cupboard) which is hot.‎ 3) Gum boil/Mouth ulcer. The American name for this painful little spot on your tongue or gums is a canker sore. We’ve all decided that that sounds far worse than a gum boil, so we’re going to stick with the Irish terminology(术语) on this one.‎ 4) Jumper. A Sportsman who practices jumping? No. It’s simply a sweater, not to be confused by a jumpsuit. Made famous by the Irish song Where’s my Jumper? By The Sultans of Ping FC.‎ 5) Chipper. In American English, a chipper means a cutter that is used to cut or break something hard. But in Ireland, a chipper is a place that sells chips , fish, battered sausages and other fried foods.‎ 6) Boot. Not the variety of shoes that go on your feet. A boot is the trunk of a car. The place where your spare tire, groceries and other big items go.‎ 7) Ride. In Ireland, a ride usually refers to an attractive person, male or female. It is not when your friend offers you a lift to the shop.‎ ‎21.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?‎ A.How the Irish use the English language in the conversation?‎ B.How the Irish communicate with Americans in oral English?‎ C.Top seven words that the Irish most commonly use in life D.Top seven words that the Irish use but puzzle Americans ‎22.What will an Irish man wear on his feet if he jogs in the morning?‎ ‎ A. Runners. B. Jumpers. C. Chippers. D. Sweaters.‎ ‎23.We can infer that the underlined word “chips”here probably refers to_________.‎ ‎ A. thin pieces cut off from wood ‎ ‎ B. thin strips of fried potatoes ‎ C. flat plastic bars used in gambling ‎ ‎ D. free lifts to some places in a car ‎24.In Irish English, a boot is where you________.‎ ‎ A. can drink coffee and tea B.put your spare tire C. can buy battered sausages D.store sheets and towels B I have always really loved receiving my monthly pocket money from my dad. After ‎ getting the money I would be very excited and would rush off to my friend’s place where after much consideration we would decide what to do with it and where to spend it. Mostly it would go for the ice cream treats or jam sessions with our favorite people around. Girls will manage to find some way of budgeting so the money we save can be used for other purposes.‎ I think that the best way to enjoy your pocket money would be to enjoy those treats that come occasionally. Since just mere pocket money would be not enough, many girls are doing a part time job of some form so that a larger amount of money can be collected. The best use of pocket money is to spend it in such a way that it involves lots of fun with your closest friends. Those treats are no fun if done alone. Company, especially good company can work wonders for providing you the best relaxation that you need. It is also best to spend your pocket money on things that otherwise parents end up refusing. When you use your pocket money to get this sense of achievement you will just feel so crazily happy.‎ I remember the time when a friend and I were just so tired of our everydaymonotonous life that we decided to go out, have some great food and then head out to the beach and have those lovely grape and mango ice-creams. And we did exactly that. That day has just been one of the most refreshing days of my life. I think the true meaning of pocket money is to be able to maximize your fun at a minimal cost!‎ ‎25.The author thinks he can get greatest fun from pocket money by ____________. ‎ A.spending it alone B.treating good friends C.traveling for fun D.buying ice creams ‎26.We can tell from Paragraph 1 that______________.‎ A.the author didn’t know where to spend his pocket money.‎ B.girls used pocket money to buy ice creams.‎ C.boys and girls may spend pocket money in different ways.‎ D.the author got pocket money from his dad yearly ‎27.We can know from the passage that__________.‎ A.children can’t spend their pocket money wisely B.there would be no fun without pocket money C.childhood happiness mainly comes from pocket money D.we can enjoy ourselves with a little pocket money ‎28.What is the best title for the passage?‎ ‎ A. How to get much pocket money ‎ B. Save pocket money as much as possible ‎ C. Pocket money brings great fun ‎ D. Pocket money means everything C Want to find a job? So what if all children in a school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them?‎ Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of class. For her, the main advantage of everyone having an iPad has been the improvement in communication. Documents can be e-mailed straight over to workmates during a meeting. Children submit their homework by e-mail, or through the school’s learning environment. Teachers now take the register(点名) using their iPad, which means that there is a centralised record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in.‎ The use of iPads has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teachers. All communication with parents is now done by e-mail. Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s work by attaching(连接) the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant(相关的) page and send it to the student in class.‎ While the use of iPads in schools has revolutionised(使彻底变革) the way children are taught, it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. Worksheets are still used in class as some children prefer the contact with paper. The children all have textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, parents feared that iPads would replace exercise books and children would lose handwriting skills. Anne Laure says, “The teachers are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources available but we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for review.”‎ ‎32. When everyone uses an iPad in school, teachers can_____________.‎ ‎ A.have deep conversations with students ‎ B.have more time to prepare the lessons ‎ C.learn more about students’activities at home ‎ D.can communicate with their workmates more conveniently ‎33.The underlined word “submit” in the second paragraph means____________.‎ ‎ A.discuss B.share C.hand in D.send out ‎34.What is parents’attitude towards the use of iPads in class?‎ ‎ A.Worried B.Uncaring C.Annoyed D.Doubtful ‎35.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A.Teachers prefer traditional methods of teaching.‎ ‎ B.The iPads haven’t completely taken the place of traditional methods of teaching ‎ C.More and more schools are using iPads.‎ ‎ D.Exercise books are more valuable now 第一节 ‎(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎_____36____You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so. Actually, anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here are my suggestions:‎ Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First decide your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying.____37_____A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.‎ Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.‎ Make good use of your time in class. _____38_____Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.‎ Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, preview the important points that your teacher is going to discuss next day, read that material. ____39_____If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you’ll remember it longer.‎ Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried.‎ ‎_____40_____You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.‎ A.
