There are gaps in everyone’s schedule where they aren’t doing anything important. Even if your schedule has no gaps, there is probably lots of time where you aren’t working as fast or as effectively as you possibly could. Why aren’t you completely efficient? It’s because time isn’t the limiting factor. If it were the limiting factor, people could work non-stop without breaks or any unproductive distractions. Instead, people, even those who are highly productive, need to take breaks, occasionally procrastinate(拖延) and slow down on tasks throughout the day. The real and most important limiting factor for productivity is your energy levels to pay attention. Energy levels limit your productivity because when you’re tired, you can have ample time and still not get everything done. Your attention ability is also limited, because even if there are a million things that need to be done, you can only focus on one or two at a time. You might not be able to insert another 4-5 hours into your schedule without making some sacrifices. But even extremely busy people can add an hour or two into their schedule without cancelling anything. The reason it’s hard to “find time” isn’t a lack of time. It’s because you don’t have enough energy left to focus on something else that needs to fit into your day. I first suspected time wasn’t the real problem during an extremely busy period in my life over a year ago. I was insanely busy, but at that time I still exercised regularly. I had daily-to-do lists with over twenty items, and I still found time to exercise. However, after a few weeks off, due to illness, I stopped exercising. I was not busy by any standards, in fact, my schedule was incredibly light. Despite this free time, I found it hard to find time to exercise. It seemed to get pushed later and later into my schedule until it was gone. How can I explain this odd experience? I believe you have known it. 24. If someone can’t work with 100% efficiency, the most important limiting factor is ______. A. a schedule without gaps B. breaks and distractions C. the limited time D. the limited energy 25. According to paragraph 4, everyone, including the extremely busy people, can ______. A. work without any rest B. focus on many things at a time C. find some more time in a day D. do some exercise regularly 26. After a few weeks off, what was the change of the writer’s life? A. He had a longer daily to-do list with over twenty items. B. He stopped doing exercise because of the lack of energy. C. He found it hard to find time to exercise because he was busier. D. He pushed most of the things later and later in his schedule. 27. The writer gives the example of himself in the last paragraph in order to ___________. A. prove what the real limiting factor is B. show us how busily he needs to work C. explain how important a healthy body is D. tell us what an odd experience he has C. The store, called Amazon Go, doesn't work like a typical Walmart or supermarket. Instead, it's designed so that shoppers will use an app, also called Amazon Go, to automatically add the products that they plan to buy to a digital shopping cart by scanning a QR code(二维码). They can then walk out of the building without waiting in a checkout line because Amazon will charge their Amazon account and send them a receipt. The first Amazon Go store is located in Seattle, where Amazon is headquartered. For years, there have been rumors the ecommerce company would expand its dominance from digital to physical shopping. Amazon began experimenting with physical bookstores a year ago, but Amazon Go may mark its boldest bet on physical ones yet. By removing much of the staff needed to operate a store, Amazon keeps costs lower than traditional competitors. It's also in a strong position to bring together data on its customers' shopping habits online and offline to make better suggestions in all situations. However, Amazon's move deeper into physical retail shops comes in a sensitive political climate. The company could be perceived as being a threat to some of the 3.4 million Americans who work as cashiers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. On the campaign trail, Donald Trump repeatedly criticized Amazon and its founder Jeff Bezos for “getting away with murder taxwise” and having “a huge antitrust(反垄断) problem.” Will the Presidentelect add “job killer” to the list of criticisms? Amazon's effort to launch a new kind of retail store predates(在……之前) the rise of Donald Trump. “Four years ago we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no lines and no checkout? Could we push the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning to create a store where customers could simply take what they want and go?” The company says on an informational page about Amazon Go. For now, Amazon is starting slow. The Amazon Go is only open to Amazon employees in our Beta program, and is scheduled to open to the public in early 2017. 28. In Amazon Go, people can ________ . A. buy products by paying cash B. buy carts without scanning a QR code C. have no bother to check out and queue D. use an app to wait in a checkout line 29. What can we infer from the third paragraph? A. Amazon has dominated the physical bookstores. B. Amazon can contribute to reducing the cost of staff. C. Amazon manages to take the place of physical shopping. D. Amazon can ignore each customer's advice in all situations. 30. The reason why Donald Trump repeatedly criticized Amazon Go is that Amazon Go ________. A. would result in a political crisis B. would threaten the career of cashiers C. may result in a huge antitrust D. is No.1 job killer in the list of criticisms 31. The main purpose of writing the passage is ________ . A. to introduce the Amazon Go store B. to explain how Amazon Go works C. to arouse people's interest in Amazon D. to indicate Trump's attitude to Amazon D. The popular smartphone application Instagram(照片分享) has changed the way we look at photography, even our world. The photo-worthy moments we share serve as an important function in cultivating the photographic artistic eye. Instagram has got people to start noticing the art in their everyday life. It has also allowed us to share the artful moments in our lives with others. Clearly, making people focus on beautiful moments in their lives and how to share them is a positive takeaway from Instagram. Not only has Instagram changed the way we look at things around us, but it has also changed the way people view professional photography. Instagram has turned everyone with a smartphone into an artist. Opening up art to the general community is a groundbreaking(创新的) aspect of this application. Making artistic attempts accessible for everyone to discover their artistic talents and explore creatively is something that has made people find the beauty in the everyday life. However, this accessibility has also created questioning around art and respect deserved by professional photography. The art in a professional photograph versus(与…对抗) an Instagram can sometimes be hard to notice at a quick glance. But photographs taken by true professional photographers hold something that Instagram’s cannot match in terms of photographic quality, or advanced compositional knowledge. This is not to say Instagram is a lesser art. Aesthetic qualities of art are a personal matter and how good an artwork is depends on personal preferences. Good is a very arbitrary term in the art world. For example, I may find one photo more pleasing than another, but not everyone has to agree with me. The point I am trying to make is that professional photography should not be lost, but instead approached with a new, enhanced level of respect and admiration — despite how accessible, common and fun Instagram now makes the taking and sharing of photos. 32. What does the writer mainly tell us in the passage? A. The increasing popularity of Instagram. B. The advantages and disadvantages of Instagram. C. The changes that Instagram brings us. D. The differences between Instagram and professional photography. 33. What can the smartphone application Instagram do? A. Help people to discover true self. B. Inspire people to find the beauty in life. C. Encourage people to be more competitive. D. Let people gain others’ respect and admiration. 34. Why do people begin to doubt the art of professional photography? A. Because common people can take perfect photos easily. B. Because they show no respect for professional photographers. C. Because the artistic level of professional photography is reducing. D. Because Instagram has changed the way people look at the world. 35. What does the writer think of professional photography? A. Useful. B. Valueless. C. Helpless. D. Absurd. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The Importance of Accessibility Awareness At a recent Teen Leadership of Jewish Family Services meeting, people with disabilities talked about their lives. 36 However, what amazed me most was the great importance of education about handicap accommodations (残疾人便利设施). One school-teacher who is blind, and a woman who has used a wheelchair all her life are two important members of the National Group for Disabled Persons, devoted to raising awareness about disabilities. 37 These include handicap parking spots, handrails, and wheelchair ramps(斜坡 ). One big concern is the people who take advantage of aids, such as handicap parking spaces. 38 And the meeting focused on educating the public. Some handicap spots have extra room next to them, marked with the “No Parking” signs. “As long as I'm not in the spot, I can take the no-parking area next to it,” some people say. However, the woman who uses a wheelchair disagrees to this. The space exists to allow someone in a wheelchair to have room to get in or out of their car. 39 Some walkways have handrails next to them to help those who require extra assistance. Whether it is a blind person seeking guidance or an elderly person seeking support, the rail is there for walking. Sometimes the rail is blocked, by a parked bicycle for instance, and consequently made useless. 40 People who are informed of the rail’s use would be less likely to mistake it for a bike rack. Meeting some of the people who are affected by the lack of education about accommodations made me see that there is work to be done. If more people were educated about the proper uses of accommodations, there would be fewer challenges for people with physical disabilities. A. Accommodations will vary according to the needs of the disabled. B. As with the parking spot, this is more likely a case of lack of education. C. They educate about all the accommodations for people with disabilities. D. Improvement must be made so that disabled people can fully participate. E. If there is a car in that space, the handicap parking spot is no longer useful. F. So people without disabilities need to be educated about these accommodations. G. I was amazed to hear about the challenges faced by people with physical disabilities. 第三部分英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项。 Life is full of miracles, which surround us every day. Nowadays, we can see many people are watching their mobile phones in subway, restaurants, elevators, roads and so on. There is no denying that people who like the mobile phone are concerned about its attractive functions. Phubbers can’t stop sending messages, surfing the Internet, listening to music and even taking photos by using the mobile phone. Moreover, some people have less time to relax themselves. They make use of the time when they are on the way to school or other places to play mobile games. However, phubbing disturbs not only our study but also our life. On the one hand, phubbers waste lots of time playing cell phone games and sending messages, particularly in class. Other people also complain they are disturbed when phones ring in classrooms. On the other hand, it can lead to health problems. For instance, using a mobile phone on the sofa can cause back and neck pain. As far as I am concerned, it is high time that we threw away the phone and raised our heads up. Do cherish everything around us and appreciate the scenery ahead of us. What’s more, we should do more exercises and take part in real-life activities. In a word, only when we use the phone reasonably can we realize the happiness of life. Thank you for your attention!查看更多
