In her other hand, she holds a paper carrier bag.‎ I know this lady. It is not her first visit. She is the boy’s grandmother, and her daughter bought the house next door last October.‎ Her daughter, Nicole, speaks fluent English. But she is now in Shanghai, and her parents are here with the little boy. Nicole has obviously told her mother that I am having heart surgery soon, so her mother has decided I need more nutrients.‎ I know what is inside the bag—a thermos with hot soup and a stainless-steel container with rice, vegetables and either chicken, meat or shrimp (虾), sometimes with a kind of pancake. This has become an almost-daily practice.‎ Communication between us is somewhat affected by the fact that she doesn’t speak English and all I can say in Chinese is hello. Once, she brought an iPad as well as the food. She pointed to the screen, which displayed a message from her daughter telling me that her mother wanted to know if the food was all right and whether it was too salty. I am not used to iPads, so she indicated I should go with her to her house. Then, she handed the iPad to her husband and almost immediately I found myself looking at Nicole in Shanghai and discussing her mother’s cooking and salt intake. Instantly, tears filled my eyes.‎ ‎“Your mother just can’t be bringing me meals like this all the time,” I insisted. “I ‎ can hardly do dishes in return.”‎ ‎“Oh, no, Lucy.” Nicole said. “Mum doesn’t like western food. Don’t worry about it; she has to cook for the three of them anyway, and she wants to do it.”‎ The doorbell keeps ringing and there is the familiar brown paper carrier bag, handed smilingly to me.‎ I am now working on some more Chinese words — it’s the least I can do after such display of kindness.‎ ‎“Thank you” is, of course, the first one. Somehow, it seems inadequate.‎ 25. Why does the elderly Chinese lady visit Lucy regularly?‎ A. She learns to speak English from Lucy.‎ B. She teaches Lucy to cook Chinese food.‎ C. She cares about Lucy’s state of health.‎ D. She wants to make friends with Lucy.‎ ‎26. What’s the purpose of Nicole’s mum taking an iPad to Lucy’s home?‎ ‎ A. To show Lucy a film.‎ ‎ B. To communicate with Lucy.‎ ‎ C. To ask Lucy how to use it.‎ ‎ D. To teach Lucy how to cook.‎ ‎27. What does Lucy mainly want to express in this passage? ‎ A. Her thanks to the Chinese family.‎ B. Her preference for the Chinese food.‎ C. Her love of the advanced technology.‎ D. Her affection for the Chinese language.‎ C ‎ People may seek true happiness for their whole lives, and believe it is impossible to achieve. However, there are some scientifically proven ways to become happy.‎ Exercise is one of the easiest ways to become happier. in fact, you may only need seven minutes a day to be happier. Not only is exercise a natural protection against depression ,it aids you in your intellectual powers, in relaxing, and in improving your body image.‎ Staying home too often can be a downer for your mood, as you might have noticed. Getting out more, doing activities with others, and seeing nature in its splendor will aid you in becoming happy. Spending 20 minutes outside in nature not only boosts one's mood, but also one's working memory and thinking capabilities.‎ Surprisingly, helping others increases our happiness as well. In fact, 100 hours of giving help per year (or two hours a week) can be the magic number to feeling better. In many studies, helping others has been found to boost happiness for reasons such as feeling more accomplished and feeling more self-worth.‎ This might sound strange, but smiling can help improve our mood. However, false smiles, if not accompanied by positive thoughts, can make you more unhappy. Facial feedback(反馈)is important, as when you truly smile, you are telling your brain you are not in distress.‎ Planning a trip away from your current vicinity can help in becoming happier, even if you do not go on the trip. That sense of hope bleeds positive emotions into your consciousness. In fact, planning a trip can boost your happiness for eight solid weeks.‎ There are many ways to become happy. However, it may be surprising that the quickest ways to feel happier are also the most natural. This is because money, drugs, and other outside items cannot reproduce what happens within us in the most innate(与生俱来的) of ways.‎ ‎28. What can people do to make themselves in better shape?‎ A. Positive thoughts. B. Doing exercise.‎ C. Going out in nature. D. Seeking happiness.‎ ‎29. Which is the best way to realize the value of life according to the text?‎ A. Being reasonable. B. Planning a trip.‎ C. Giving a hand to others. D. Doing activities outside.‎ ‎30. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5?‎ A. Strange smiles, bad mood. ‎ B. False smiles resulted from sorrow.‎ C. Sincere smiles, true happiness.‎ D. Happiness caused by positive thoughts.‎ ‎31. What does the author mainly intend to tell people in the text?‎ A. How to be happy. B. The most natural ways.‎ C. When to be happy. D. The happiest to seek for.‎ D When people argue about whether coffee is good for health, they’re usually thinking of the health of the coffee drinker. Is it good for your heart? Does it increase blood pressure? Does it help you concentrate? However, coffee affects the health of the human population in other ways, too.‎ Traditionally, coffee bushes were planted under the shade of taller trees. However, more and more farmers in Latin America are deforesting the land to grow full-sun coffees. At first, this increases production because more coffee bushes can be planted if there aren’t any trees. With increased production come increased profits.‎ Unfortunately, deforesting for coffee production immediately decreases local wildlife habitat. Native birds nest and hide from predators(捕食者)in the tall trees and migrating(迁徙) birds rest there.‎ Furthermore, in the long term, the full-sun method also damages the ecosystem because more chemical fertilizers(化肥) and pesticides(杀虫剂) are needed to grow the coffee. The fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that eat coffee plant, but then the birds eat the poisoned insects and also die. The chemicals kill or sicken other animals as well, and can even enter the water that people will eventually drink.‎ Fortunately, farmers in Central and South America are beginning to grow more coffee bushes in the shade. We can support these farmers by buying coffee with such labels as “shade grown” and “bird friendly.” Sure, these varieties might cost a little more. But we’re paying for the health of the birds, the land, ourselves, and the planet. I think it’s worth it.‎ 32. Which opinion does the author probably agree with?‎ A. Pesticides should be forbidden in coffee planting.‎ B. Farmers should change the places to grow coffee.‎ C. Shade-grown coffee should be supported.‎ D. People should buy full-sun coffee.‎ ‎33. Compared with the traditional method, what advantage does the full-sun method have?‎ A. It can protect the ecosystem.‎ B. It can promote people’s health.‎ C. It can provide more nests for birds.‎ D. It can increase the production of coffee.‎ ‎34. How do farmers get more land to grow full-sun coffee?‎ A. They cut down trees.‎ B. They move to other countries.‎ C. They turn grassland into farmland.‎ D. They buy more land from other farmers.‎ ‎35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?‎ A. Why plant Full- Sun coffee?‎ B. Why buy Shade-Grown coffee?‎ C. How does Shade-Grown coffee affect the health?‎ D. How does Full-Sun coffee damage the ecosystem?‎ 第二节 (共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分)‎ ‎    What makes one person more intelligent than another? What makes one person a genius, like the brilliant Albert Einstein, and another person a fool? Are people born intelligent or stupid, or is intelligence the result of where and how you live? 36 ‎ ‎    We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle. 37 Mental exercise is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists think that parents should play with their children more often and give ‎ them problems to think about. 38  If, on the other hand, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do, they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.‎ ‎     39 According to some psychologists, if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive things to their children, such as "That was a very clever thing you did." or "  40  "‎ A.A healthy body contributes to oneˈs intelligence.‎ B.Parents should also be careful about what they say to young children.‎ C.What people want to express is like this.‎ D.The children are then more likely to grow up bright and intelligent.‎ E.It needs exercise.‎ F.You are such a smart child.‎ G.These are very old questions and the answers to them are still not clear.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用 (共两节,满分45分) ‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 ‎ My Hero What does it mean to be a hero?I think a hero is someone who goes out of his way to make others happy. My hero is Mr.Wright,my chorus(合唱队) teacher.
