They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eye. When the boy was around four years old, one day the father was exhausted after work so he asked his wife to pick up their son. The mother, who was very busy in the kitchen, totally forgot about it. Later the boy lost his way on the street. When the son was found missing, the mother hurried to look for him, but she didn't find him. The mother felt very sad and didn't know how to face her husband. When the father went to the police station after hearing that the son was missing, he looked at his wife and said just four words. What do you think the four words were? The husband just said “I love you, darling.” The son was missing. If she had picked him up earlier, this would not have happened. There is no point in blaming anyone. His wife had also lost her only child. What his wife needed at that moment was comfort and understanding from her husband. That is what the husband gave his wife. Several weeks later, with the help of the police, the couple finally found their lost son. The family's relationship became stronger over that time. Sometimes we spend lots of time asking who is to blame. We miss many chances to give each other support and let each other feel the warmth of human relationships. Get rid of all your unwillingness to forgive, selfishness, and fears and you will find the world is much more wonderful. 21.What is the meaning of the underlined phrase “the apple of their eye”? A.A person who always has a sweet smile in their opinion. B.A person who is as pretty as an apple in their opinion. C.A person who is loved more than anyone else in their opinion. D.A person who looks like an apple in their opinion. 22.Why didn't the father pick the boy up himself? A.He was very lazy. B.He thought the mother had picked him up. C.He forgot to pick him up. D.He was too tired to do it. 23.What can we learn from this passage? A.Be careful in everything you do. B.Love is the most important thing. C.Learn to forgive others. D.Everyone can make mistakes. 24.What do you think of the husband? A.Warm-hearted. B.Careful. C.Hard-working. D.Broad-minded. B In Canada you can find dogs, cats, horses, etc. in almost every family. These are their pets. People love these pets and have them as their good friends. Before they keep them in their houses, they take them to animal hospitals to give them injections so that they won't carry disease. They have special animal food stores, though they can get animal food in almost every kind of store. Some people spend around two hundred Canadian dollars a month on animal food. When you visit people's houses, they would be very glad to show you their pets and they are very proud of them. You will also find that almost every family has a feeding place for birds in their garden. All kinds of birds are welcomed to come and have a good meal. They are free to come and go and nobody is allowed to kill any animal in Canada. They have a law against killing wild animals. If you killed an animal, you would be punished. If an animal happened to get run over by a car, people would be very sad about it. People in Canada have many reasons to like animals. One of them might be that their family ties are not as close as ours. When children grow up, they leave their parents and start their own life. Then the old will feel lonely, but pets can solve this problem. They can be good friends and never leave them alone. 25.The passage mainly talks about____ . A.how to keep disease from pets B.pets in Canada C.how to take good care of pets D.life of the old in Canada 26.They give their pets injections before keeping them at their houses because ____. A.the pets are sick B.the pets are wild C.they want to prevent them from getting sick D.they want them to sleep on the way home 27.In Canada, children leave their parents when they grow up because ____. A.they don't love their parents any more B.they can only find jobs far from their parents C.their parents’ houses are too small D.they wouldn't depend on their parents any more 28.Which of the following is TRUE? A.People buy animal food only at the animal food stores. B.Pets eat better than people. C.Almost every family has a birdcage in his house. D.Any bird can come to the bird feeders to eat. C There are many places to go on safari in Africa, but riding a horse through the flooded waters of Botswana's Okavango Delta must rank as one of the world's most exciting wildlife journeys. Several safari camps operate as the base for this adventure, providing unique rides twice a day to explore deep into the delta. The camps have excellent horses, professional guides and lots of support workers. They have a reputation for providing a great riding experience. The morning ride, when the guides take you to beautiful, shallow lakes full of water lilies, tends to be more active. It is unlike any other riding experience. With rainbows forming in the splashing water around you and the sound of huge drops of water bouncing off your body and face, it is truly exciting. You are very likely to come across large wild animals, too. On horseback it is possible to get quite close to elephants, giraffes and many other animals. The sense of excitement and tension levels rise suddenly though, as does your heart rate, as you move closer to them. In the evening, rides are usually at a more relaxed and unhurried pace , with golden light streaming across the grassy delta and the animals coming out to eat and drink. Sedate though they are, rides at this time of day are still very impressive. As the sun's rays pass through the dust kicked up by the horses, the romance of Africa comes to life. Back at the camp you can kick off your boots and enjoy excellent food and wine. Looking back on your day, you will find it hard to deny that a horseback Safari is as close as you will ever come to answering the call of the wild. 29.What does the author find most exciting about a horse safari? A.Seeing and feeling the real African life. B.Enjoying good food and wine at the camp. C.Hunting large animals just as our ancestors did. D.Being part of the scene and getting close to animals. 30.What does the underlined word“Sedate”probably mean? A.Wild and romantic. B.Slow and peaceful. C.Hungry and thirsty. D.Active and excited. 31.The author introduced the riding experience in the OKavango Delta mainly by . A.following space order B.following time order C.making classifications D.giving examples D Some of the world’s most famous musicians recently gathered in Paris and New Orleans to celebrate the first annual International Jazz Day. UNESCO( United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) recently set April 30 as a day to raise awareness of jazz music, its significance, and its potential as a unifying voice across cultures. Despite the celebrations, though, in the U.S. the jazz audience continues to shrink and grow older, and the music has failed to connect with younger generations. It’s Jason Moran’s job to help change that. As the Kennedy Center’s artistic adviser for jazz, Moran hopes to widen the audience for jazz, make the music more accessible, and preserve its history and culture. “Jazz seems like it’s not really a part of the American appetite,” Moran tells National Public Radio’s reporter Neal Conan. “What I’m hoping to accomplish is that my generation and younger start to reconsider and understand that jazz is not black and white anymore. It’s actually color, and it’s actually digital.” Moran says one of the problems with jazz today is that the entertainment aspect of the music has been lost. “The music can’t be presented today the way it was in 1908 or 1958. It has to continue to move, because the way the world works is not the same,” says Moran. Last year, Moran worked on a project that arranged Fats Waller’s music for a dance party, “Just to kind of put it back in the mind that Waller is dance music as much as it is concert music,” says Moran. “For me, it’s the recontextualization. In music, where does the emotion(情感) lie? Are we, as humans, gaining any insight(感悟) on how to talk about ourselves and how something as abstract as a Charlie Parker record gets us into a dialogue about our emotions and our thoughts? Sometimes we lose sight that the music has a wider context,” says Moran, “so I want to continue those dialogues. Those are the things I want to foster.” 32.Why did UNESCO set April 30 as International Jazz Day? A.To remember the birth of jazz. B.To protect cultural diversity. C.To encourage people to study music. D.To recognize the value of jazz. 33.What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Jazz becoming more accessible. B.The production of jazz growing faster. C.Jazz being less popular with the young. D.The jazz audience becoming larger. 34.What can we infer about Moran’s opinion on jazz? A.It will disappear gradually. B.It remains black and white. C.It should keep up with the times. D.It changes every 50 years. 35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.Exploring the Future of Jazz. B.The Rise and Fall of Jazz. C.The Story of a Jazz Musician. D.Celebrating the Jazz Day. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Every child is a good seed of the future.
