I wonder how he would react if I were to read my newspaper out loud on the train, I have never had the courage to do it, though. Pak50 — 57 minutes ago Why not give it a try? Perhaps you should take lessons on a musical instrument. The late musician Dennis Brian is said to have asked a fellow train passenger to turn off his radio. When his request was refused, he took out his French horn(号) and started to practice. Angie O’Edema — 24 minutes ago I don’t see how musical instruments can help improve manners in public. Don’t do to others what you wouldn’t like to be done to yourself. Once, a passenger next to me talked out loud on his mobile phone. I left my seat quietly, giving him some privacy to finish his conversation. He realized this and apologized to me. When his phone rang again later, he left his seat to answer it. You see, a bit of respect and cooperation can do the job better. Taodas — 19 minutes ago I did read my newspaper out loud on a train, and it turned out well. The guy took it in good part, and we chatted happily all the way to Edinbergh. Sophie 76 — 8 minutes ago I have not tried reading my newspaper out loud on a train, but, several years ago, I read some chapters from Harry Porter to my bored and noisy children. Several passengers seemed to appreciate what I did. 21. Who once read a newspaper out loud on a train? A. Pak50. B. Angie O’Edema. C. Taodas. D. Sophie76. 22. What is the discussion mainly about? A. How to react to bad behavior. B. How to kill time on a train. C. How to chat with strangers. D. How to make a phone call. 23. Where is the passage most probably taken from? A. A webpage. B. A newspaper. C. A novel. D. A report. B A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off — if it is milked from a cow at night. Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin (褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety. The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night. Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food. Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer. While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night. Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax. Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night. 24. Which of the following is true of melatonin according to the text? A. It’s been tested on mice for ten times. B. It can make people more energetic. C. It exists in milk in great amount. D. It’s used in sleeping drugs. 25. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Night Milk and Sleep B. Fat, Sugar and Health C. An Experiment on Mice D. Milk Drinking and Health 26. How does the author support the theme of the text? A. By giving examples. B. By stating arguments. C. By explaining statistical data. D. By providing research results. C “You can use me as a last resort(选择), and if nobody else volunteers, then I will do it.” This was an actual reply from a parent after I put out a request for volunteers for my kids’ lacrosse(长曲棍球) club. I guess that there’s probably some demanding work schedule, or social anxiety around stepping up to help for an unknown sport. She may just need a little persuading. So I try again and tug at the heartstrings. I mention the single parent with four kids running the show and I talk about the dad coaching a team that his kids aren’t even on … At this point the unwilling parent speaks up, “Alright. Yes, I’ll do it.” I’m secretly relieved because I know there’s real power in sharing volunteer responsibilities among many. The unwilling parent organizes the meal schedule, sends out emails, and collects money for end-of-season gifts. Somewhere along the way, the same parent ends up becoming an invaluable member of the team. The coach is able to focus on the kids while the other parents are relieved to be off the hook for another season. Handing out sliced oranges to bloodthirsty kids can be as exciting as watching your own kid score a goal. Still, most of us volunteers breathe a sigh of relief when the season comes to a close. That relief is coupled with a deep understanding of why the same people keep coming back for more: Connecting to the community(社区) as you freely give your time, money, skills, or services provides a real joy. Volunteering just feels so good. In that sense, I’m pretty sure volunteering is more of a selfish act than I’d freely like to admit. However, if others benefit in the process, and I get some reward too, does it really matter where my motivation lies? 27. What can we infer about the parent from her reply in paragraph l? A. She knows little about the club. B. She isn’t good at sports. C. She just doesn’t want to volunteer. D. She’s unable to meet her schedule. 28. What does the underlined phrase “tug at the heartstrings” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Encourage teamwork. B. Appeal to feelings. C. Promote good deeds. D. Provide advice. 29. What can we learn about the parent from paragraph 3? A. She gets interested in lacrosse. B. She is proud of her kids. C. She’ll work for another season. D. She becomes a good helper. 30. Why does the author like doing volunteer work? A. It gives her a sense of duty. B. It makes her very happy. C. It enables her to work hard. D. It brings her material rewards. Imagine a child standing on a diving board four feet high and asking himself the question: “Should I jump?” This is what motivation or the lack of it can do. Motivation and goal setting are the two sides of same coin. 31 Like the child on the diving board, you will stay undecided. 32 More than that, how should you stay motivated to achieve the goal? First, you need to evaluate yourself, your values, your strengths, your weaknesses, your achievements, your desires, etc. Only then should you set your goals. You also need to judge the quality and depth of your motivation. This is quite important, because it is directly related to your commitment. There are times when your heart is not in your work. 33 So, slow down and think what you really want to do at that moment. Clarity(清晰) of thoughts can help you move forward. Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible. 34 They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals. Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a pilot but can’t become one because your eyesight is not good enough. 35 You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal. You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals. A. This can affect your work. B. So how should you motivate yourself? C. However, this should not discourage you. D. So why should we try to set specific goals? E. They can change according to circumstances. F. Motivation is what you need most to do a good job. G. Without motivation, you can neither set a goal nor reach it. That holiday morning I didn’t have to attend school. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that's a big dog!" he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him. Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray(防熊喷雾剂). With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶). Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to show down. He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he’d be easily caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now. who 人物 (角色) Mac Paul and Becky two cyclists wolf when 时间 afternoon where 地点 home to Alaska what 事件 A wolfattacked Mac why 原因 how 怎么 因此,文章大意就是,Mac 与好友一起骑行去阿拉斯加,路上同伴因修自行车落后,Mac 独自一人前行,遇到狼的突袭,好一番搏斗,幸亏此时 Paul 和 Becky 两人开车经过,出手相救。如何发展(how)?这要看考生的想象力如何。 在通读全文时,考生应将影响语义理解的词句进行仔细揣摩,结合上下文推测出它的准确含义。比如, A bright red cloud enveloped the animal,该句中的 enveloped 可以结合上下文,猜出它的含义大致为 surround sb. or sth. completely。 2. The car abruptly stopped in front of him.第二段的第一句是:A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. The car abruptly stopped in front of him,学生理解为是 Mac 要求他停车等。 4.其他问题 阅卷中发现很多考生错误地将一个单词随意移行。因为单词移行规则很复杂,建议考生还是不要拆字为好。另外,阅卷中发现很多标点错误,以下几点需注意:英语中没有顿号,分割句中并列成分多用逗号,如 She slowly, carefully, deliberately moved the box;英文的句号是实心点(.);英文的省略号是三个点(...),位置在行底。 作文范例点评 范文一 The car abruptly stopped in front of him. A woman hurriedly opened the door and stretched out her hand, shouting, “Get in!” Mac grabbed her hand without hesitation, leaving his bicycle lying on the road and jumped into the car. The moment he shut the door, he caught a glimpse of (瞥见) the fierce eyes and hungry look of the wolf by the door. A cold feeling crept(爬行;蔓延) over his heart and made him shiver(寒颤;哆嗦). However, the car had left the wolf far behind, which made him sigh with relief. Mac thanked Paul and Becky and afterwards they pulled over by the road to wait for Mac’s friends. A few minutes later, the two other cyclists arrived. As soon as they met, his friends’ worried look faded away. “Where have you been? We saw your bicycle on the road. ”His friends asked and these words like a penetrate of sunshine warmed his heart. After Mac explained to them, they said farewell(辞别) to Paul and Becky in sincerely indebtedness(债务;受恩惠). On the way home, night breeze(微风) made him at ease and he couldn’t wait to share his experience with his wife and children and show the kindness of the world. 〖点评〗 这篇文章语言上最大的特色是无灵主语的使用,即用无生命特征的名词做句子的主语。整篇 11 个句子,其中无灵主语就有 5 句,占了 42%。(1)A cold feeling crept over his heart and made him shiver.(2)However, the car had left the wolf far behind, which made him sigh with relief.(3)As soon as they met, his friends’ worried look faded away.(4)these words like a penetrate of sunshine warmed his heart.(5)On the way home, night breeze made him at ease.这样,同样含义的句子就由平淡变得生动有力了。如:Feeling indeed had smothered(使窒息;抑制) her judgment that day.(选自英国著名作家 Thomas Hardy 的小说 Tess of the D’Urbervilles) 语言上的第二大特色就是这篇文章词汇的使用,如 indebtedness 等于 gratitude 感激,pull over表达路边停车,这些都体现了较为深厚的语言功底。 但是,文章还是有些瑕疵。Mac grabbed her hand without hesitation, leaving his bicycle lying on the road and jumped into the car.这一句中应将 leaving 改为 left,使其与前面的 grabbed 及后面的jumped 成为连贯动作,也可把 jumped 改为 jumping 同 leaving 平行成为 grabbed 的伴随状语; His friend asked and these words like a penetrate of sunshine warmed his heart.此句中的 penetrate 是个动词被错误地当做名词使用,可以改为 His friend asked and these words like a ray of sunshine warmed his heart; After Mac explained to them, they said farewell to Paul and Becky in sincerely indebtedness.此句中的 sincerely 应该改为形容词修饰名词 indebtedness。 范文二 The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Mac’s heart jumped wildly, and he dashed towards the car without the slightest hesitation for he knew it was his only chance. It was a real race against time to make it! Thank god, Mac successfully made the door open and that fierce wolf was just around the corner. The instant Mac settled him on the seat, Paul started the car in a flash. The wolf had to give up and find another goal. What a narrow escape! Mac collapsed(倒塌;倒下) into the seat and smiled bitterly(苦地). The other two guys decided to stop at the gas station to have a rest. A few minutes later, the two other cyclists arrived. Seeing his friends, Mac felt a great weight taken off his mind. His friends were amazed at Mac’s experience, for it was a miracle to escape from a hungry wolf! Mac thanked Paul and Becky again and again, but his appreciation was beyond words. He said sincerely: “You can’t imagine how grateful I was, for I have been given a second life!” Tears gathered up in Mac’s eyes when he waved them goodbye. It was obviously an unforgettable experience, and Mac would have a lot to share with his family after he got home. It was his courage and other people’s kindness that saved him. 〖点评〗 从语言角度出发,这篇文章特征明显。首先是语言地道,表现在三处 for 的使用,(1)for he knew it was his only chance.(2)for it was a miracle to escape from a hungry wolf!(3) for I have been given a second life!句子中使用 for 更加符合英语的思维习惯,尽管前后是并列关系,但是前面提 供了主要的信息,然后进行补充说明。如:因为李越出色的表现,校长授予他“本周学生之星”荣誉称号。在这句话中,汉语的思维是先说原因,而英语的翻译则是先说结果:The president awarded Li Yue the title of “Star Student of the Week” for what she did for our class. 原因和结果的位置是有很大差异的。再者,此文章比较娴熟地使用了写作的各种技巧,如强调句的使用 It was his courage and other people’s kindness that saved him. 感叹句的使用:(1)You can’t imagine how grateful I was,(2) What a narrow escape! 等等。 但是,这篇文章也存在一些不足。The instant Mac settled him on the seat, Paul started the car in a flash.此句中的 him 应该改为 himself。第一段尾句 The other two guys decided to stop at the gas station to have a rest.这句话与上下文脱节,起不到承上启下的作用,出现了情节逻辑的问题。 总的说来,该文章比较好地完成了读后续写的任务,既读懂了原文,又有比较好的语言功底将故事续写下去。 范文三 The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Seeing Paul wave at him kindly and open the car door for him, Mac immediately jumped out of his bicycle and rushed into the car. No sooner than the poor man had got in did Paul close the door. The wolf walked around the car and howled furiously(激烈的;狂怒的) at them, but just in vain. Realizing it couldn’t catch Mac any more, the wolf ultimately(最终) gave up and walked away gloomily(沮丧地). Watching the wolf was swallowed by the road, Mac, bathed in perspiration(汗水), sighed with relief and sank down to the back seat. Paul handed him a bottle of water and he managed a weak smile, murmuring(低声说;咕哝) something like “Thank you very much”. A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. Knowing that Mac had been chased by a wolf, they were stumped(被…难住) for words and paralyzed with fear. Fortunately, at that moment appeared Paul who lent a helping hand to Mac. The two friends extended(表达) their earnest(诚挚的) gratitude to Paul for rescuing Mac and then took Mac back home. After such a terrible experience, the splendid landscape of Alaska seemed no longer to be a temptation(诱惑) to them. On the way back home, feeling the light breeze through his hair, Mac felt what happened just now was like a bad dream, but a warm glow(微弱而稳定的光) flooded in as he thought of Paul’s unselfish help. The most precious part of humans is their care for each other. 〖点评〗 这是一篇非常优秀的文章。特别靓丽的地方就是 doing 的使用,具体有:(1)Seeing Paul wave at him kindly and open the car door for him,Mac immediately jumped out of his bicycle and rushed into the car.(2)Realizing it couldn’t catch Mac any more, the wolf ultimately gave up and walked away gloomily.(3)Watching the wolf was swallowed by the road, Mac, bathed in perspiration, sighed with relief and sank down to the back seat.(4)Paul handed him a bottle of water and he managed a weak smile, murmuring something like “ Thank you very much”.(5)Knowing that Mac had been chased by a wolf, they were stumped for words and paralyzed with fear.(6)On the way back home, feeling the light breeze through his hair, Mac felt what happened just now was like a bad dream, but a warm glow flooded in as he thought of Paul’s unselfish help. The most precious part of humans is their care for each other.共占了 12 句话中的 50%,却不让人感到单调,非谓语动词的使用可以比较地道地表现语言的美。 其次,文章大量使用了高级词汇,howled furiously at them, ultimately, gloomily, perspiration, splendid landscape, murmuring, stumped, extended their earnest gratitude 等等,特别是不同场合不同动作的动词的适当使用。 语言描写贴切地表达了情节发展的逻辑,采用动作描写大大重于对话描写,读来有很强的身 临其境的感觉。 美中不足的是考生在试图使用高级表达的时候出现了些瑕疵,如 No sooner than the poor man had got in did Paul close the door. 这句话在结构上是错误的,必须改为 No sooner had the poor man got in than Paul closed the door. 另外,Mac immediately jumped out of his bicycle and rushed into the car.此句中的 out of 必须改为 off。 附:听力原文 普通高等学校招生全国统一考试 英语听力模拟试题(1) (Text 1) M: Jane, are you interested in The 7th Mobile World? My name is Sandy and I’m the general manager of Castle Pop Entertainments and I just want to take a few moments to mention a few things to you before you join your work groups. You all have a copy of the plan of the festival grounds. Now most things are obvious, but first I’d like to point out the visitor toilets here along the side of the main area. plan 平面图 Also, there are public telephones behind the stage. I mention these two things because they are places that visitors often ask for. For yourselves, one of the most important places is the staff meeting point where you're meeting. This is the staff meeting point It is new this year. The staff meeting point is between Campsite One and the disabled viewing area. The visitors' meeting point is, as you can see, in the centre of the main area, between the breakfast tent and the entrance. Now another important thing is the first aid tent. This is a big round tent so you can’t miss it. It's on the right hand side of the entrance. Finally, I want to mention the security on the site. We have a number of small security offices. One is near the entrance, but the main security office is opposite the disabled viewing area-it’s next to the Olde England Pub so that the officers can keep an eye on what’s going on there. keep an eye on 注意查看更多
