One day, a friend called and asked: Did Couch have any cooking work for her teenage daughter? She didn’t, but the friend continued to beg. So Couch finally came up with a project: making meals and sending them to a local homeless center.‎ ‎ After seeing how excited and proud her friend’s daughter was after making the meals, Couch decided to replicate(复制)their lesson on a larger scale. That’s how in 2007, the Ceres Community Project was born. The Bay Area-based program asks teen volunteers to cook healthful, all-organic meals and send them to sick people with cancer and other serious conditions.‎ That first year, 21 volunteers made 4,500 meals. In 2015, 400 volunteers prepared 90,000 meals. Couch has opened five branches across the Bay Area. And she has helped start similar programs in cities like Eugene, Ore., and Madison, Wis. and now, the group has expanded east of San Francisco. In February, the Ceres Project opened up in Alameda, Calif., working with a supportive housing organization called Alameda Point Collaborative(APC). Much of the financial support came from the $100,000 left by a local woman who passed away from breast cancer. Generally, their money comes from a mixture of individual and foundation donations.‎ ‎ “I’m seeing a lot of the kids’ natural leadership and social skills come out in the kitchen,” says Aileen Suzara, the Alameda program coordinator and chef. “I see a bright light from the kids’ eyes. They have a sense of how the project is really touching someone’s life.”‎ ‎ When she first started the program, Couch thought that the cooking skills the teens got would be the most valuable part of the program. But that’s not the case. “It’s really about learning that they matter in the world and that their choices make a difference,” she says.‎ ‎24. What was the request of Couch’s friend?‎ ‎ A. She hoped to start a project. ‎ B. She needed some home-delivery meals.‎ ‎ C. She wanted Couch to offer her daughter a job ‎ D. She asked Couch to work at a homeless center.‎ ‎25. What can we say about the Ceres Project?‎ ‎ A. It is facing a lot of challenges. ‎ B. It badly needs public support.‎ ‎ C. It has kept growing over the years. ‎ D. It has long been influenced by APC.‎ ‎26. How does Suzara feel about the teen members?‎ ‎ A. Worried. B. Doubtful. C. Curious. D. Satisfied.‎ ‎27. What is the greatest benefit of the project?‎ ‎ A. Building a different society. ‎ B. Helping teens realize their self-worth.‎ ‎ C. Improving teen volunteers’ cooking skills.‎ ‎ D. Allowing locals to make their own choices.‎ C Some rain must fall. For many people in the world today those rainy days take the form of financial problems. If you have found yourself in such a position, you may be wondering what you should do in a difficult time. Through this text, you are given some tips and advice that you can use if you are facing some sort of financial problems or difficulties.‎ The first step that you will want to take when you find yourself in a budget crunch(预算短缺) is to make sure that you take the time to contact your money lenders. By making contact with your money lenders, you will open up the lines of communication. In this day and age,the typical money lender is going to be willing to deal with you and work with you. As long as you are proactive, you are likely to find that a lender or other creditors will be willing to work out a payment plan that will work for you.‎ The next step that you will want to take is to make a serious budget for the future. One of the reasons that people run into trouble in many instances rests in the fact that they simply do not take the time to budget and plan. By planning and budgeting, you will find that you will have a better chance of avoiding financial problems and difficulties in the future.‎ A third step that you will want to take when it comes to dealing with a financial crunch is that you should start to eliminate some of your credit cards. Many people do end up facing financial issues because they have collected far too much debt on credit cards. In this day and age, people really do tend to overuse credit cards in many instances.‎ Finally, when it comes to dealing with and resolving a financial crunch, you will want to make sure that you eliminate some of your unnecessary spending at least for the time being. While you understandably like to buy things that are entertaining, nice and special if you are facing financial issues,it is important to return to the basics until you get rid of a financial crunch.‎ ‎28.The writer wrote this text in order to ________.‎ A.suggest that we should make a careful budget in our daily life ‎ B.give readers some advice on how to deal with financial problems C.show us how to keep in touch with our money lenders D.explain to us his experience in saving money in his daily life ‎29.The writer gives all the following tips except ________.‎ A.to cook our own meal at home instead of eating out ‎ B.to make a careful plan for your future life C.to give up some of your credit cards D.to stay in contact with those who lend you money ‎30.The underlined word “eliminate ”in the fourth paragraph most probably means ________in this text.‎ A.build up B.show up C.burn up D.get rid of ‎ ‎31.What can your money lenders do for you?‎ A.The money lender can cut off some of his interest for you.‎ B.The money lender will help to make out a plan for paying back the money.‎ C.The money lender will offer you a certain discount when you pay.‎ D.The money lender will allow you extension (延期) if you can't pay.‎ D Teachers using red pens to mark students' work could be harming their psyche(心理)as the color is too aggressive, according to education strategies drafted by an Australian state government.‎ The “Good Mental Health Rocks” kit, which was distributed this month to about 30 schools in Queensland State, offers strategies such as “Don't mark in red pens(which can be seen as aggressive)—use a different color.”Other tips include structuring time for peer tutoring every day, apologizing to students when necessary and asking students to conduct a “personal skill audit(审查)”where they focus on their individual strengths rather than their weaknesses.‎ The kit, designed to help Queensland teachers address mental health problems in the classroom, suggests social and emotional wellbeing has been linked to young people's schooling, among other things. The education aid has sparked a row in parliament(议会),with deputy opposition leader Mark McArdle calling it “kooky(怪异的),loony(发疯的),loopy, lefty policies.”‎ But Health Minister Stephen Robertson, whose department devised the kit, said youth suicide was a serious issue.“If mental health professionals determine that as one of a number of strategies teachers should consider, and then I'll support them every day,”he told reporters recently.“This is not a matter for ridicule;this is serious”.‎ According to some Australian mental health groups, the greatest number of people with mental illness is aged between 18 and 24 years, with 14 percent of Australian children and adolescents suffering from some sort of illness. Boys are slightly more likely to experience mental health problems than girls and depression is one of the most common conditions among young people and increases during adolescence, the website of mental health group Mindframe said.‎ ‎32.In this text the writer seems to suggest that ________.‎ A.children should be encouraged to think of their strengths B.teachers should let peers to help their classmates every day C.teachers should not mark students' work in red pens ‎ D.teachers should not be so aggressive to their students ‎33.The “Good Mental Health Rocks” kit was designed for the purpose of ________.‎ A.taking care of the students' mental health in the classroom ‎ B.improving the students' health when they are at school C.developing the students' strengths instead of weaknesses D.improving the teachers' teaching strategies in the classroom ‎34.From this text we can infer that ________.‎ A.a great many of people kill themselves every year B.red pens kill many young people every year at school C.students' mental health wasn't paid attention to before D.different people hold different opinions about the kit ‎35.What's the main idea of the last paragraph?‎ A.Most of the young people in Australia suffer from some kind of disease.‎ B.Adolescents are much easier to suffer from mental problems.‎ C.Most children in Australia are in a poor state of health.‎ D.More and more people are suffering from depression in Australia.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ There is an old Spanish Proverb which states, “Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week”. 36 I’d say, too many.
