I woke up at 2:30 a.m. needing water. I was walking back upstairs from the kitchen when I heard my American bulldog, Rock. Whatever Rock was doing down there, it made enough noise for me to go to him. By the time I made it to the bottom of the stairs, he was running up, and he never came down the stairs, no matter what. I think that was his way of telling me, “We’ve got to go back up.” When I got to the top of the stairs, I turned around and saw a light on, but I didn’t remember leaving one on. I walked downstairs again, and that’s when I saw fire. I immediately shouted to my wife to wake up and get our three kids. I then broke the window, got everybody out on the roof and threw a blanket out there so we wouldn’t slip off. Then I started screaming for help. But help never came. I’m scared of heights and have physical issues, because of my rheumatoid arthritis, but I couldn’t let my family burn up. So I jumped off the roof and got the wind knocked out of me when I landed. I found our ladder, placed it against the house, and climbed back up to the roof. I wrapped my arms around my daughter and carried my nine-month-old son with my teeth, by his little sleeper. Then I climbed down the ladder. Once on the ground, I had my little girl hold her brother. Then I went back up again and got my wife. I tried to get my dog, but I never saw him again. I’m not a hero. I’m just an ordinary person who would help anybody. This happened to be the time when I helped my own family. I live to protect my family. Just like Rock - he lived to protect us. 24.Why did Rock behave unusually? A. To upset the author B. To hope to stay upstairs C. To express his dissatisfaction D. To inform the author of the fire 25.When did the author realize a fire had happened? A. When he got up to get some water B. When he heard the bulldog barking C. When he caught sight of a light downstairs D. When he walked downstairs a second 26.What most probably drove the author to save the family in danger? A. His responsibility to the family B. His strength to escape from the fire C. His ability to put out the fire D. His confidence to overcome the difficulty 27.What can we infer from the text? A. Rock didn’t survive the fire B. Nobody would like to help the author’s family C. The author wouldn’t like to stay with Rock any longer D. The author’s wife was so scared that she couldn’t say a word C The Creation of A dam is Michelangelo’s fresco(壁画) painted during 1508 to 1512. The painting is based on the Biblical story of creation and presents more than the artist’s brave point of view. It might only be a part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, but something about this painting makes it stand out. In the painting, Adam is located on the left side in a relaxed fashion, and God is presented as a white-bearded elderly man. God’s right arm almost touches Adam’s left hand. Here Adam is receiving life directly from God, and through the life given to him - he will, in turn, give life to all humans. Michelangelo made The Creation of A dam in such a way that the figure of Adam imitates the figure of God. Adam’s body is curved(弧形的) as he reaches out to God, taking one’s mind to the idea that man is made in similar appearance to God himself. The man’s image appears a mirror reflection of God. In Michelangelo’s time, creation scenes were a common subject. But The Creation of A dam broke the rules that were set in the field of art. God has always been thought of as a powerful ruler of mankind. One would expect such a personality to be painted wearing royal clothing and such, but Michelangelo reduced him to a simple old man in simple clothes with most of his body exposed. God is shown to be accessible, touchable, and close to his creation. There are still many explanations regarding the meaning of the painting. Geographers have considered it to be similar to two lands joined but separated by a huge canal. Scientists have analyzed the picture might symbolize (象征) the birth of mankind. Why did Michelangelo make the hands in that way? Why was a space left between two fingers? It is hard to think about it. This one detail is the entire reason why this painting is famous. 28.The image of God and Adam reaching out to each other symbolizes . A. love to be passed B. life to be passed C. the struggle of life D. equality of humans 29.How did Michelangelo paint God in a creative way? A. He painted God as a poor old man. B. He painted God as an ordinary man. C. He described God as a powerful ruler. D. He made God touched by humans. 30.According to the author, what makes the painting so famous? A. Its location in the Sistine Chapel B. Its theme that was commonly used C. Its special color that was seldom used D. Its secret meaning that is hard to understand 31.What is the text mainly about? A. A Biblical story of creation. B. The talents of Michelangelo. C. The value of The Creation of A dam. D. An introduction to The Creation of A dam. D Part drama, part dark comedy, new film To the Bone talks about a young woman’s struggle with anorexia(厌食症). Though the film already got generally positive reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, it has caused a hot Twitter debate around whether the film romanticizes anorexia and whether it could be harmful for those with eating disorders. Critics of the film have focused on the leading role Ellen: a young, thin, white woman with anorexia. They think there’re some plots that have made eating disorders look like trends instead of life-threatening illnesses. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, anorexia has the highest mortality rate (死亡率) of any mental illness. Thirty million Americans struggle with eating disorders at some point in their lives. Director Marti Noxon based the film on her own battle with anorexia. She was aware of the film’s potential to trigger harmful effects and then tried to be really careful in the way she showed how Ellen looked. “You want to help other people understand something that they’ve never experienced, but you also want people who have experienced it to feel understood and seen and to give people hope,” she added. “We were balancing a lot. I wanted to avoid the idea that the perfectionist quality of anorexics is their most obvious character.” The film caught the attention of Liana Rosenman, who founded Project Heal, an organization that helps eating disorder sufferers afford treatment. “I thought it was very powerful,” Rosenman said. “There is a sense of humor and wittiness in it as well as just understanding what it’s like to have an eating disorder.” Project Heal recently played To the Bone in New York and Los Angeles, but it has faced sharp criticism from members of their community on social media. 32.What do we know about the film To the Bone from Paragraph 1? A. It tells the growth story about a girl. B. It has received mixed comments. C. It is popular among young people. D. Twitter users have no interest in it. 33.What does the underlined word “trigger” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Fight B. Avoid C. Cause D. Remove 34.What do Noxon’s words suggest? A. She admitted the film is harmful to people B. She tried hard to make the film benefit people C. All those suffering from anorexia want to be perfect D. People who haven’t experienced anorexia can’t understand it 35.What’s Rosenman’s attitude towards the film? A. Supportive B. Negative C. Uncertain D. Over the past few weeks, I find the teachers as well as my classmates have changed a lot. The teachers are stricter than before and it seems that they want to teach us all that they have learned. There’s no doubt that we are working harder, creating a positive learning atmosphere where we help each other. Busy as we are , we still take full advantage of our spare time to do some after-school activities, like doing sports and sightseeing. All in all, we are busy, but happy. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 听力材料 Text 1 M: Is the meeting held in Room 302 or 303? W: It should be in Room 302. But I heard that it has been put off until tomorrow. Text 2 M: Can I take a look at your Christmas cards you bought this morning, Lily? W: Impossible. M: Well, what happened? W: I put them on the table and then left to do the laundry. And when I came back, my little naughty brother had torn them to pieces. I am so mad! Text 3 W: I like what you have done with your living room. It seems to be a lot bigger than before. M: Yeah, we like it, too. We knocked down the wall in the living room and turned the guest room into a bathroom. It cost a lot, though. Text 4 M: Did you finish typing that report? W: Yes, I did. It is really a long report. It is ten pages long. I started to type it at 6 o’clock, and it took me two hours to finish it. Text 5 W: What are you studying in school these days, Matthew? Anything interesting? M: We’re learning about red and white blood cells right now, which is pretty boring. Gym class is fun, though. W: Well, I remember hating math class, but now I’m a math teacher. Text 6 M: Hey Mary, you look great! You’ve changed a lot! W: Really? Maybe it’s this new diet that I am on. I’m hoping to lose ten pounds by the summer. M: Well, whatever you are doing, it’s working. When did you decide to go on a diet? W: Last month. I made a New Year’s resolution to eat healthier and exercise more. M: Good for you. Is this your first time here? W: No, I’ve been to this gym once before. How long have you been a member? M: Just three weeks. I come here every Thursday and Saturday. Text 7 M: Hi, Susan. I haven’t seen you for ages. How are you getting along with your work? W: Hi, David. Not as well as I had expected. I’ve left my position. I can’t bear the rudeness of my boss any longer. M: What are you going to do, then? W: Maybe I’ll start my own business. But it isn’t easy for me. I have to give it some serious thought. What about you, David? M: I’ve become very successful as a dancer. I like this kind of life. It’s really exciting. W: You can’t do that forever, though. M: But I’ve decided to open a dance school once I’m over the hill. Our younger dancers need better training. W: That’s a wonderful idea! Text 8 W: Oh! What happened to your yard? It’s all torn up. M: This happened over the last two weeks, actually. It was birds and other small animals hunting for their winter food. W: What? Why are they digging up the grass? I thought they just ate leftover(残余的) food from the garbage cans. M: They’re looking for the little insects that eat the roots of the grass and lay their eggs in the soil. W: I guess there’s not much you can do about that. Once they’re in, they’re in. M: I think the only way to stop the problem is to have the entire yard replanted first. Then I have to treat it with chemicals so the insects don’t come back. W: Wow, that is going to take a lot of work…and cost a lot of money. M: Why do you think I’m in such a bad mood? Text 9 W: I just heard on the radio that there are a lot of fake apps for your phone. They allow people to get your personal information. M: Really? That’s pretty scary. I don’t usually download apps that I haven’t heard of. W: Yes, but these ones appear to come from well-known brands and companies. M: So, which ones should I be careful about? W: Basically anything that says they provide deals or discounts, and then ask for your personal information. And make sure you don’t give away any of your banking information, either. M: Oh, no! I think I just signed up for something like that today. But it was for Wal-Mart, and I thought it looked real. W: That’s how they get you. You’d better remove that app, call your bank right now, and change your password. M: Thank you for telling me all this. I’ll pass the message along to my friends, too. Text 10 Mr. and Mrs. Jones seldom go out in the evening. They often stay at home and watch TV after supper. Sometimes they take a walk in the garden. But last Saturday, Mrs. Jones said to her husband, “There’s a good film showing at the King Theater tonight. Shall we go and see it?” Mr. Jones was quite happy. When they got out of the theater, it was already eleven o’clock. It was quite dark. There were few cars on the road and they saw hardly anyone outside. Suddenly, Mrs. Jones saw a woman running fast with a man following her. She said to her husband, “Look, Bill. A woman is running along the road very fast and a man is running after her... Can you see them?” Mr. Jones answered, “Yes, I can.” He drove the car slowly near the woman and said to her, “Can we help you?” “No, thank you,” replied the woman, but she did not stop running, “My husband and I always run home after going to the movies and the latter one back has to wash the dishes at home.” 查看更多
