‎2019版一轮复习外研版必修一Module1My First Day at Senior High单元学案 Ⅰ.阅读理解 A Students from Oceanside High School in Rockland will be able to sleep in a little longer from this autumn.‎ Regional School Unit 13 Superintendent (负责人) Lew Collins said during the school's Thursday night meeting that the schedule for the schools will be changed. Oceanside East and West will start a half hour later, at 8 a.m. for their new school year.‎ Research has shown that teenagers' brains are often not fully awake at 6:30 a.m. Collins said the schedule, which is used to get students to school for classes that begin at 7:30 a.m., calls for some to get on buses before 6 a.m. to get to school on time. Teachers are having meetings at 6:40 a.m., which is too early, he thinks. ‎ Collins visited the high schools in Rockland and asked students when they would like classes to begin. Most of them said 8:00 a.m. “I was surprised. I thought they would have said 9:00 or 10:00,” he said.‎ The National Sleep Foundation says on its website that teenagers' biological clocks are designed to stay up later and get up later. The Foundation called for schools to change their schedules, which means a later start as well for elementary students (小学生).‎ We do not have enough buses to run, since all the high school and elementary school buses run almost at the same time, Collins said. He suggested, “We should buy six more buses and get six more drivers to keep the new schedule working.”‎ Elementary school classes in Rockland now start at 8:30 a.m., but will be moved to 8:45 a.m., starting in the autumn. “I know this is a problem for working parents, but we will see what we can come up with,” said Jane Brown, a teacher at Bardonia Elementary School. “Anyway, I believe if students get more sleep they'll be more ready to learn when classes start,” she added.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。考虑到学生们的身体特点,Rockland的学校将要推迟上课时间。‎ ‎1.A new schedule will be made to ________.‎ A.add more interesting subjects B.help students do better in class C.ask parents to learn about schools D.cut the number of meetings down 解析:选B 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“teenagers' brains are often not fully awake at 6:30 a.m.”和第五段中的“teenagers' biological clocks are designed to stay up later and get up later”可知,制定新时间表的目的是为了符合孩子们的睡眠规律以便他们在课堂上拥有更好的状态,故选B。‎ ‎2.One of the problems facing the schools in Rockland is that they will ________.‎ A.be afraid of working parents' disturbance B.be worried about children's safety C.be short of school buses D.be short of teachers 解析:选C 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“We do not have enough buses to run”可知,学校面临的问题之一便是缺少校车,故选C。‎ ‎3.What does Jane Brown think of the new schedule?‎ A.She is not certain about it.‎ B.She is not interested in it.‎ C.She is worried about it.‎ D.She is hopeful about it.‎ 解析:选D 推理判断题。根据最后一段中Jane Brown所说的“I believe if students get more sleep they'll be more ready to learn when classes start”可知,对于新时间表她是满怀信心的,故选D。‎ B In addition to showing support for their school, high school students with school spirit perform better academically, are more engaged in social matters, and are happier in general than their lessspirited schoolmates. These findings were part of an online survey of high school students, parents and principals. The new survey conducted by Harris Poll involved about 1,500 individuals who were asked about school pride, academics, selfrespect and community involvement. The research attempted to discover how school spirit is connected to the way high school students learn, lead and grow.‎ School spirit involves a student's pride in his or her school, a student's tendency to get other students to be active in school events, and a student's plans to return to his or her school for special events after graduation. A student who completed the survey stated that “school spirit means to support your school no matter what, knowing your school has helped you to reach your goals.”‎ From academic achievement to general happiness, the survey indicated a positive relationship to school spirit. Nearly all of the principals believe that higher levels of ‎ school spirit are tied to higher student achievement.‎ ‎“When students feel a sense of school spirit, they tend to be more involved in the great opportunities which exist in their school,” noted one female principal who responded to the survey. “If they have a lower level of such spirit, they are not involved in athletics or many of the activities. Additionally, they do not take personal responsibility for not doing well and tend to blame the school. Students who are achieving strongly tend to be involved in all aspects of high school. They participate in different events, activities and athletics on site.”‎ The survey indicated that during the 2016-2017 school year, high school students were involved in an average of eight afterclass activities; and among those individuals involved in activity programs, 51 percent said the reason they were involved was so that they could be involved in their school, and 34 percent said getting involved was a way to show their school spirit.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。一项调查研究显示,校园精神对学生有着积极有益的影响。‎ ‎4.The survey was conducted to explore the link between ________.‎ A.students' performance and support from their school B.students' happiness and their academic achievement ‎ C.school spirit and high school students' development D.high school students' school spirit and social matters 解析:选C 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“The research attempted to discover how school spirit is connected to the way high school students learn, lead and grow.”可知,这项调查的目的是探寻校园精神和高中生发展之间的联系。‎ ‎5.The Paragraph 2 shows students with higher school spirit will ________.‎ A.feel very proud of their own achievement B.often revisit their school after graduation C.try to work very hard to reach their goals D.pay much less attention to school events 解析:选B 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“a student's plans to return to his or her school for special events after graduation”可知,具有较高校园精神的高中生毕业后会经常回学校。‎ ‎6.The female principal tells us students with school spirit ________.‎ A.are better at taking opportunities at their school B.are more likely to take part in school activities C.spend more time learning than doing athletics D.often refuse to take personal responsibility 解析:选B 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Students who are achieving strongly tend to be involved in all aspects of high school.
