Some jokingly or seriously say that friends are made to be used. It makes me very sad. True friendship doesn’t mean that when you need your friend’s help, you will treat him to dinner, and when you have to protect yourself, you will put your friends in a difficult situation. In fact, true friendship is the communication and understanding of the hearts. True friendship is like water. Compared with decent wine, water is tasteless, but is of great help when we are thirsty. True friends don’t need to be with each other every day,but are connected in heart every minute. True friendship is like medicine. Though it is bitter,it cures your illness. True friends give you some suggestions even if they know you would not take. They criticize you when others have a good word for you,not because of envy but worrying that you may lose your cool head. True friendship has nothing to do with fame, power or money. True friends would often watch you silently far away when you are influential, but come to you whenever you need their help. You’re not his stepping-stone to success, but are his crutch to live through difficulties. True friends make you complete. Many persons go along with you through your life ─your parents, your spouse, and your children, who take care of you and make your life happy. However, you still need someone who understands your thoughts and souls. Without them, you are likely to be unhealthy in spirit. True friends stay in your heart, rather than at your side;they know you more than yourself, and try to better you. 56. The writer feels sad because some people . A. don’t treasure friendship B. don’t understand friendship C. make wrong friends D. blame their friends 57. The writer speaks of water because . A. it has no taste B. it stays with us every day C. it is easy to get D. it is important to our life 58. The underlined word “influential” in Paragraph 5 means“ ”. A. powerful B. busy C. helpful D. quiet 59. According to the passage, true friends may help you . A. achieve success B. understand them better C. enjoy mental health D. live a happy life B If you were to travel back in time to the tenth century, you probably wouldn’t be able to understand a sentence that anyone said to you. They'd be speaking Old English. Talking to a tenth-century Englishman, you’d probably only be able to understand a few words like “a” or “the”. Only about one-sixth of today's English words have an Old English root (词根), with the rest having foreign influences. Gradually Old English turned into the Middle English that Chaucer wrote in — but still the official language of England was French! It was only in 1362, during Chaucer’s lifetime, that English was used at the opening of Parliament (议会) for the first time. During the same year a law called the “Statute of Pleading” was passed, making English the official language in Parliament. In 1399, King Henry IV became the first king of England after the Norman Conquest whose mother tongue was English. English was still a language of low status (地位) — especially when it came to writing poetry (诗歌). During the 14th century, the Italians and French were creative. Great poets like Dante were writing in totally new ways. But English had no such great writers. This was where Chaucer made a difference. He took the language of the man in the street and turned it into many famous works, such as The Canterbury Tales. Chaucer proved poetry written in English could be every bit as good as books in French. Of course, the English language has continued to change since Chaucer's day. For example, Shakespeare's English is quite different from Chaucer's. And it is still changing now. Until just a few years ago, “C U L8R” (see you later) was just a set of letters and numbers, but now most people know what it means! 60. What happened during Chaucer’s lifetime? A. English’s status was greatly improved. B. English kings usually spoke English. C. English was used only in Parliament. D. Old English began to turn into the Middle English. 61. Why was Chaucer so great? A. He first used formal English to write. B. He had a big influence on poets like Dante. C. He was a pioneer in writing English poems. D. He encouraged people to read books in French. 62. How is the passage developed? A. By space. B. By time. C. By importance. D. By comparison. C In 1992, a group of architects(建筑师)and engineers in Seattle had collected hundreds of canned goods for charity. “We wanted to give back to the community,” said Deborah Ashcraft, organizer for the Canstruction project. Volunteers also wanted to have some “creative fun,” so they used the cans to create a huge map of the State of Washington. Today Canstruction has thousands of volunteers across the United States and Canada, for the purpose of creating a world without hunger. Castruction members build their delicious artwork in shopping areas and museums, and compete for prizes. In some cities, such as Tampa Bay, Florida, Canstruction artists are made up of school kids, “Our class built a Wurlitzer organ(风琴)out of cans,” said Jasmine Heaggans, a student at Lanier Elementary. “We based ours on the 77-year-old organ at the Tampa Theater.” Beginning in September, architects Danni Anstett and Danielle Williams visited class weekly. After a field trip to see the real Wurlitzer, the architects showed the class how to draw pictures of the organ from all sides. They instructed students to do a plan view---a bird’s-eye view of the structure. And they helped the young artists count up how many cans would be used. On October 24, Canstruction workers from Lanier and three other Tampa Bay schools gathered at the local shopping area to build and display their artworks. The students got to stack (堆)cans. With 1,800 cans, Lanier students had nine hours to get the Wurlitzer ready for the judges. “The cans had to be perfectly stacked,” student Courtney Keenam recalled, “or everything would fall.” After four hours, the students were feeling pretty good. The organ was taking shape. Then the kids had an “uh-oh” moment. The cans were facing the wrong way. They had to be turned around son the fronts of the labels showed. “We fixed one side, and then realized that the other side was wrong, too,” said Qiana Francis. “It turned into a long day.” At last, the Wurlitzer stood shiny and tall, just in time for the judges to name it “most creative.” 63. What is the aim of the Canstruction project? A. To sell canned food B. To build better communities C. To bring people much fun D. To end world hunger 64. How did Anstett and Williams help the young volunteers? A. By drawing pictures of an organ B. By building an organ with cans C. By helping design the artwork D. By offering them a real Wurlitzer organ 65. Why did the students come together on October 24? A. To enter a can building competition B. To do volunteer work for the shopping area C. To collect cans used by the shopping area D. To get more people to join Castruction 第二节:根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) How to Have a Successful Teenage Life Everyone wants to succeed in their life, don’t they ? So I’m pleased to share my experience with you, and here are some suggestions. Firstly, you should make the best of every opportunity in and out of class to speak English. As a saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”, try your best to communicate with your classmates in English. Secondly, it is of great importance to use recite skills. The more English you recite, the easier you will find speaking. (Thirdly, reading the beautiful texts loudly in your spare time so that you can have a good command of it.) Finally, you should be confident in speaking English and not afraid of making mistakes. Above all, the most important thing is that you decide to express what you want to say. I hope my suggestions can help you. Yours sincerely, Li Hua查看更多
